Well, please don't spoil it, I've been meaning to see it with my sis, but the Manila Film Festival is on right now and the only things showing are either bad comedies or extremely long art films. they'll probably start showing it again soon.

Also I reserve judgment, since I haven't seen it yet. That's why I stayed out of the "Is Avatar Good" thread.

Don't know where you're getting the "perfectly well executed" story from, as pretty much everyone I know acknowledges that Avatar's story is terrible, but they went in with low expectations and were quite blown away (durr) by special effects.

There's no major plot holes in the story, it's not a very original story, but it's told well.

@Vester: I won't spoil it, just don't read the spoiler tag below. My advice is to keep in mind what Avatar is and realize it's not trying to be anything besides a big-budget action flick that says "screw subtlety" and kicks you in the crotch with mechs.

Then you'll enjoy it.

@Neruz: That's a matter of opinion, we can disagree.

That's not even a spoiler! Every single bit of that spoiler was revealed in the trailers.

It's a terrible story, which is an opinion. Don't get sand in your urethra over my opinion.

If you read the Avatar thread, you'll see my scathing take on the matter.

You think that's a bad story? Jeez, that's like half of the major story threads gone for you, i feel sorry for you man.

So what if I can't enjoy anything anymore?  Cynicism is its own reward.

This is so true.

Most of the enjoyment i get out a movie these day is pointing out its flaw and logical fallacies.

Just because he dislikes a story of a type, it dosen't mean that he dislikes all stories of a type. Perhaps he just felt that the stories specific details, rather than the general gist of it, was the problem.

@Neruz: My opinion: A mass majority of everything is crap. (Some of it comes from reading tvtropes) This is also my opinion- I'd say it's difficult to find someone who likes a majority of anything. Art? Music? Hiphop? Collected works of Kanye? *gasp* country music?

Or maybe you do like most things, what are you... some sort of hippie elf? :P

Don't feel sorry for me. I don't take it seriously, and I'm not claiming it's fact. In my opinion, Avatar's story sucks, but it's not a bad movie. If I go in expecting a movie that'll make me a better person having been enriched by the experience of witnessing it's glory... yes, it'd be a bad movie. But I went in expecting a movie that I can watch and turn to my bud as explosions rock the theatre as I punch him drunkenly in the face while yelling, "FUCK YEAH LOOK AT THOSE MECHA" and he mumbles how they're mechs and not mecha, I got the movie I wanted.

Actually i have all the same issues with Avatar and similar movies that everyone else in this thread does; i just apparantly have the advantage that i was smart enough to turn my brain off during the movie.

Not "apparantly".
