An image.
« on: December 17, 2009, 12:17:39 am »

I got a possession and this is what came out. I've seen plenty of images on artifacts (and I've seen quite a lot of those), but never just 'an image'. Is this a bug, or just something I've never seen before?

Furthermore, what the hell is it an image of? Is it just such a shitty picture that it can't be described? Or is it an image of some horrible Lovecraftian monstrosity that cannot be described in words of less than ten syllables apiece?

Hm.

Do you have your history turned off?

Also, I think the dwarf who was possessed wanted to make a whole lot of things, but just made "an image" to express all of them at once.

Ah, yup. This was it. I just recently put a fresh install of DF in, and I'd forgotten to change some of my init preferences back to normal. *Facepalm*.

Huh. This is... odd. Here's the 'revealed' version of the artifact:

The Hazy Palisade is my civ - now I'm just wondering what sort of 'unknown creature' we appointed to be our diplomat. In Year 1 after the creation event, no less.

Odd. Usually "an unknown creature" is genned by "cull unimportant figures," but a diplomat is pretty damn important.

Odd, indeed.

How does one represent an unknown creature?...

A giant question mark, perhaps?

I suppose the fact that it's unknown is why it's an "   image   ".

Usually when there is no description on an image, its because there ain't a raw-entry for it, if I am not wrong.

I don't understand why not to let the Danes do it..

Ah, he's making a joke about the prohibition of depictions of Muhammad (or just his face, in some cases) in Islam and the whole "Danish-cartoon" fiasco.

I have now vivisected the joke for your enjoyment.

I do remember empty creature descriptions for wagons - but even in DF, I fail to see how a wagon can become a diplomat.
Even though its answers might be the most intelligent of all.
