Bleach (anime)
« on: December 16, 2009, 07:00:46 pm »

To stop the 'I like anime do you like anime?' thread turning into a bleach one I decided to do what someone suggested and create a bleach thread.
So if you want to discuss bleach do it here rather than there

I never saw, but my brother used to.  Said it started out good and different, but then fell into the same bad anime cliches that so many other good series do.

Seriously, slapping "anime" on something seems to have some sort of hypnotic effect on people.  Anime =/= automaticly good show.  Their shows have gotta work for it, too.  Just like every other show in every other genre.

Well the reason why Anime often feels better then anything you find on television is simple: A strong sense of continuity. That is often enough for me to watch even bad animes since I am sick of episodic shows.

The exact second Bleach started to become bad was when Momo lived.

There are other shows with good continuity though (if I get what you mean by "episodic" and (continuity").  For example, House.  Though the patient's problems are normally resolved in each episode, the social issues in the previous episode continue to be present in the later episodes until resolved.  Other examples would be Buffy the Vampire slayer, Serenity (too awesome to be so short lived), and, from what I've seen of it (admittedly not much at all), Castle.

Most (not all) animes I've seen just have some single conflict that takes several episodes to resolve, or fall into that after awhile.  Zach Bell did the latter.  The Dragon Ball sagas were notorious for it.  Bobobo Bobobobo made fun of it (it was basically The Tick of anime, satirizing the genre at large.  I loved it).

Right but the vast majority of shows have weak continuity or no continuity while most anime have strong continuity.

I have trouble watching Live Action shows... While to admit I don't like a lot of the shows others like (I'd never get into the Sopranos) others (such as Eureka) I just NEVER seem to know when it is on.

So in the end I watch a lot of cartoons.

So anime is often refreshing.

MIND you, after Anime stops being refreshing it just becomes Cliche and often boring. The fact that Japan recycles voice actors like no tommorow is evidence to this.

Though I have odd tastes to say the least. (For example... I like Mermaid Melody)

I didn't like the fact that Momo lived either but I figured out why she did. There are actually two reasons. Reason one, Ichigo and freinds are to be the main protagonists so you don't want to give Toshiro Hitsugaya a bigger reason to want Aizen dead than Ichigo. If Momo died then Hitsugaya would have more of a reason to want Aizen dead than Ichigo, at least in my opinion he would. Reason two, It adds some drama to the Hitsugaya/Aizen battle. When he finally gets to confront Aizen he might not finish him off, or at least hesitate to attack(which would allow Aizen to escape), since it would crush Momo's already damaged psych. And from what I have gathered about Hitsugaya, he wouldn't do anything that could hurt Momo.

Of course all of this is just an opinion.

I am not so much saying that Momo living was the worst thing that ever happened.

It was just the start of the ultra-contrived nature of the series that would happen later. Especially since they treated her as dead until "she is healed".

Also Hitsugaya has more of a reason then Ichigo for wanting to kill Aizen as it is anyhow.

Should put in spoilers for thread title.

And eh, like I said sometime before... the whole anime/manga went off a cliff after the soul society arc...
