Potentially the Greatest Mood Ever...
« on: December 15, 2009, 11:31:51 am »

So I have a Hauler who has been injured for a while now, and hadn't gotten around to killing him to free up the bed space.  He has a red upper leg (R) and red lower arm (L).  Sadly I get a fey mood and who has it?  The bed ridden cripple.  And he was hungry at the time.

He wants a rough gem right now...which is across the maps in my mines because I forgot gem stockpiles.  So I have a hungry cripple passing out every two feet trying to get to the gems.  I don't even care what it is/worth....it will be my most prized artifact if he actually makes it.  Will update ASAP.

Nice. You just wait, that shit is gonna take him like a year or more, assuming that I'm right about dwarves never dying or going insane during artifact creation (when they're interrupted due to a lack of materials, then it's a different story).

Ya I was wondering if he would starve.  Guess not.

UPDATE:  Dwarves DO go insane mid construction.  I now have a depressed, dehydrated, hungry, cripple-dwarf.

It'll be a donkey leather thong, studded with quartz and it'll menace with spikes of cat leather, you mark my words.

Mind you, I had a similar one recently; an injured legendary farmer (red leg wound and a yellow arm wound) entered a fey mood. Fortunately, he was a dabbling armorsmith, so even though the artefact itself wasn't that impressive (it was a cat leather buckler), at least I got a legendary armourer out of it :)

Of course, immediately after he finished it I struck adamantine. Typical.

He's gone insane, guys.
Nothing to see here but a dwarf that'll probably starve before he gets within fifty tiles of the lava.

My sig is related.

I had a... I forget what. Probably some soap maker. He went into strange mood; well, this guy had taken crippling wounds during an orc siege (only one made it in, along with its giant wolf spider mount, but it made a huge mess).

Well, he crawled out of bed, moved a bit, passed out, so on and so forth... before hitting the stonefall traps placed around the civilian quarters and dying about ten steps out.

This is a Dwarven corpse. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encircled with bands of pathetic and menaces with spikes of fail.

I'm pretty sure you could have just forbidden all the rough gems, and make the guy stop dead in the tracks, place a stockpile for rough gems somewhere closer to the shops, claim one of them and hope it's a hauler, not the mooder, who checks it.

All goes well, guy gets the gem, and happy times ensue. And I figure even if he would claim the gem instead of other haulers, you could get another gem, bring it to the stockpile, and then forbid the one the mooder was after originally.

So yeah. Sort of late advice, but you know, live and learn, and all that jazz.

In a succession game, I had a crippled dwarf spend 2 seasons (constantly passing out) gathering materials and then another few seasons (constantly passing out) building the artifact.  As I recal it was some useless wooden artifact.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.
