I find that it is much easier to make money in this game selling stock short then buying it.  Look through the listings of the industries with poor return on capital.  Find a company with poor financials and negative projected income then ride it down until it croaks or starts making a profit.  Rinse.  Repeat.
Eh... I disagree.
You need to remember that selling short is
A) Always at your risk. You cannot do it through another company, therefore if it 'goes wrong' you pay.
B) Transaction based. It does not help your networth and you cannot choose to keep the stock.
C)Risky with a smart opponent. If someone else buys up your shorted stock before it drops, you need to cover the position prematurely and that can cost you.

You only short stock if you think that the stock is going to go down in the extreme near future. For instance, if the company is expected to split or report earnings (and the company is a generally bad company) or declare bankruptcy or get sold or purchase another company soon or whatever.

Shorts are aptly named: As soon as they've made even a little bit of money, get rid of them.

In any case, you should be focusing on buying into good companies. I still move to just start a new game.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Our networth is still 179 million...
So if we sold now we'd end up with more money than I usually start games with (I normally play difficulty 3, 100m).

So I think we are still ok in this game.

EuchreJack's suggestion of selling half the stock is an option.

But for now:

Company seems to be recovering. analysts suggest to buy.
We have some credit left.
I suggest we take 31,59 millions from the bank and we buy more.
We may go down , or recover. But if we go down, lets do it well.
And if we rise again, the extra stocks will help.

I say stay in, maybe even buy on credit. Once we get out of this, though, we should create our own company in brewing and distilling.

Before we start trying to earn money, maybe we should get in a position of power.
Insider trading is only illegal if its caught :)

Lets sell out of the motor industry and try to find a cheap company with allot of assets and a good credit rating, Don't worry about profit. Ideally 20% should be less then 100m

Sell of the assets and use the credit rating to buy 20% of a bigger company, with more assets and cash.

Once we have a company that has around 1billion at its disposal, then we should start thinking about how to earn some cash personally.

If nothing else it will allow us to screw with any potential competitors. The AI is having allot of difficulties in my game.

EDIT: We can also use the control to get us chosen as CEO, stock options in big companies can be quite useful

In the future, buy options instead of stock if you don't care about actually owning the stock and instead just want to earn money.

If we are to go down, we might as well go down in a blaze of glory!

A 3% dividend isn't bad, but it's not great, either. If nothing else, we'll continue to earn money from that. Of course, I'd bet a ton of money that the stock's going to go up, but I highly doubt it's going to go up much.

We need to buy stock in another company. I would recommend a U.S. company this time. Something cheap, but not manufacturing. How about a retailer of some sort?

President Nader?!

Goron, has the President ever acted on the demands of the labor unions? I'm afraid that these commies are just going to cause a recession.

Sell?  Are you crazy?  We just rode the stock all the way down and now you want to sell when it has nowhere to go but up?  The company is showing a nice profit again, has solid financials, fairly low value to equity and solid management.  It might not have been a good company to get in before, but it's looking very attractive right now.

Hold onto your shares like driftwood in a stormy ocean.
