Shouldn't it be 4? 4th edition and all that. :P

Without another wizard, we'll be left with a mostly melee party. So I suggest to take another player and hope he whips up either a rogue or a support mage.

Also, putting magic items in the player's handbook.  That's not where they go.  The player's aren't supposed to know what stuff does.  And then it says maybe I could let the players make a wishlist of items they want.  I'm a Dungeon Master, not Santa Claus.

There's an important reason for that: 4e is tightly balanced, the players require magic items to be able to function appropriately for their level. As such, the magic items go in the PHB.

Remove all prior thoughts about hiding things like magic item functions from the players; unless the item is some sort of special campaign specific artefact, they know what it does and how to use it after studying it during a short rest.

4e has removed the concept of hiding things from the players and screwing them over with surprise traps entirely. In 4e the PC's are heroes, it's designed to play like an action movie or like a heroic saga, Heroes do not attempt to open doors and get desintigrated.

Also, if we're going to lose our second wizard i can switch to a Bow Ranger for ranged power; specific classes aren't neccessary, but having people that can engage in both melee and at range is a good thing, as is covering all the roles.

Yes. It is.

The attitude the DM is supposed to take in 4e is radically different from previous versions; the DM is supposed to help the players, he's expected to assist them in telling their stories and having fun, unlike in previous versions where he's expected to try and bone them in as many ways as humanly possible.

It's a fairly major leap and has prompted alot of people to try and 'homebrew' in the old 'bone the players' gameplay, which almost never ends well.

Sounds good, I never was good at boning my players.

Except that one time, but that's a story for another day.

Sean, you  need to make your character sheet publicly visible.

Alright, good.  The first adventure is ready, and I guess I'll do some preparing for the inevitable digressions while we wait for the first session.

One important thing.  I've never DMed 4e, and I'm not used to having this many monsters in each encounter.  The various challenges may be way too easy or way too hard.  Once I see how you guys work, I'll be able to balance them more (Although I suppose I could run some playtests to see.  I think I'll do that).

On one hand, overly powerful encounters would be too difficult to be properly fun. On the other hand, there's always "that which does not kill me...".

Also, you haven't changed Neruz'z charsheet. While it's all the DDI Builder needs to transport a character, it lacks a lot of info that's usually needed - like hit points. Oh no, wait, it does have HP. Well, it's not too detailed anyway. :P

I'm following the rules for building encounters, but since I don't know much about your characters I don't know exactly how they'll work.  We'll see.

Just played a test combat.  It was tough enough to be exciting, without being too tough.
