Help: Strange Mood
« on: December 12, 2009, 01:18:22 pm »

My armorer got into a Strange Mood. Because all of my magma forges still are waiting for my Magma Sewers to fill up, I decided to forbid them all and build a classic metalsmith forge.

Now, the metalsmith forge is built, but my armorer is sitting in the meeting area doing nothing! I reclaimed the magma forges, and he still do nothing. Have I broken him?  :-[

Seems like he just needs another workshop.

Do you have fuel? He probably won't do anything if you have no fuel for either.

I'm fairly sure moods don't need fuel. Could be wrong, though.

Just build what you don't already have, one of everything really, he might just want something you don't have. I would try a glass furnace. Also they don't stop because of no fuel I thiiiiinnnk, they'll request it won't they?

Apropos I did not mean another metalsmith's forge, rather a much different workshop, because obsessed dwarves do not perforce follow their labors.

How about this:
Quote
Known quirk

On maps with magma, dwarfs* who intend to create an artifact at a forge or glass furnace may only be willing to use a standard (non-magma) version, or only a magma version, and will find the other completely unacceptable. If they are just standing around, then they won't use the type you have, and you will have to build the other type for them (though no fuel will be required if using a standard, non-magma version).

(* This would include most all armorsmiths, blacksmiths, metalsmiths, weaponsmiths, and glassmakers, and any whose mood is dictated by the relevant skills.)

But I did build a non-magma forge. It's operational right now, and the dwarf still won't act.

Does forbidding workshop can break the programming of a dwarf?

But maybe he needs a magma forge.

So you did forbid a workshop when the dwarf was on his way claiming it? I do not know, if this makes him stop, but if it does, I would say that he would turn mad then. Because "destroying" a dwarf's claimed workshop makes him usually go crazy.

Ok. Good news then: he didn't turned crazy (yet). So I have some time on my hand...

Will he claim a magma forge if there isn'T ennough magma to power it (yet)?

Maybe no, maybe yes. My advice: Save your game, copy the folder, start it in the second folder again and wait there for the magma. If he does claim then the forge, problem's solved, if not, you can delete the second folder and you have not lost time.

No. And you DO NOT want him claiming it until it is no longer turning on/off with magma levels. If this happens while he is constructing an artifact, it will break his mood forever.

His active labors don't matter. What matters is his highest moodable skill. It would really help you to carefully read the wiki when you have questions like this, as it is very helpful on this subject and many others. Granted: sometimes it gets things wrong, but mostly it's better than asking questions here that are answered in detail there.

His highest moodable skill IS armorer, don't assume I didn't checked the wiki.

Most of the suggestions already have been tried, as stated in the opening post:

- Is it his moodable skill? Ans: I checked in DC
- Build another non-magma forge. Ans: I did it already, no dice

So, I was simply worried that forbidding a workshop would break the mood of my dwarf the way forbidding a material does when he starts working on the artifact.

You're in good shape then. Just make sure you get a magma forge operational before he goes nutso.
