Giant Toads: What Do You Mean, It's Not A Megabeast?
« on: December 12, 2009, 02:16:21 am »

Seriously, this giant toad that crawled out of the cave river in my current fort has killed something like six dwarves, and when my military did manage to wound it, it healed within a minute. It has a long title now.

Sometimes it's the least dangerous named creature that's the worst of them all.

My fort started with an UG pool that was open to the surface. It didn't take long for A) a Giant Toad to climb out and kill my liaison, on the first year as well and B) a Giant Olm to accompany it.

Then the migrants came.

4 out of 20 survived the onslaught. I will never again underestimate the toads or olms.

Huh, you would'nt think a big toad or salamander-type-thing would be all that aggressive.

I mean, you pick them up IRL they don't bite or anything they just pee on you.

I like to imagine it being pretty much like how wildlife in Pikmin is.

Out to get you. The toads just leap into the air, and crush the dwarves underneath.

Really, Toady's just trying to lure us into a false sense of security.

Frogs are quite agressive, in real life, against anything that they can fit in their stomachs. Bull frogs are commonly known to eat rats, and various other "varmints". They bite hard, too. Vicious creatures.

That's a good comparison.

It also makes me want to play Pikmin (which is right beside me).

Think of it this way... at least giant olms and giant toads can't reproduce in this game. Well, unless you mod them to be able to...

I modded giant olms to breed... thank gods when I finally found the river, the two in there were both female. Then again, lost my chance for an olmsplosion :(

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

They're named after the game's creator. Did you really expect to draft a few haulers and have them wrestle it to death?

They're trappable, size 10, and [PET_EXOTIC]. Do the math.

I didn't have any cage traps outside. I'll set a couple up where the river creatures are coming out (accidentally opened up right over it when I was looking for it) next time I load up the game.

Oddly enough, there's only been a couple tantrums despite the orcs, goblins, giant toads, and that wrestler I accidentally smashed with a drawbridge.
