Man, this game really hates you, seems like you're stuck in a cycle and the damned thieving wives isn't helping at all!

I often try to cultivate nephews into diocese bishops, then I'm not without the piety boost.  Plus, the bishops you get from the church often aren't of the best caliber...

In a lame attempt to bump this LP, I'm here to express just how deceitful this game's AI can be.
So, I recently came back to my game. I'm the King of Lithuania, aiming towards becoming King of Rus someday, probably not on this lifetime since my incredible prodigal King is +60 years old. All my heirs are still children, and I hope I can live long enough to see the oldest one complete his studies and become a man.
Anyway, my kingdom is divided  in several counties, a bishopry and 2 duchys with about 3 provinces each, with all the rest being directly controlled by the crown (IE me). Its a small but rather stable kingdom, with good income and an army of +30.000 men, with a pagan revolt here and then, but they're easily put down and eventualy converted, I can't build churches still, apart from having level 2 architecture, so I'm still researching it.
Anyway, to the point now: Both of my Dukes are (apparently) completely loyal, and one of them is a prodigal young man who was actualy a bastard from one of my courtiers. He's a frakkin genius with excellent stats everywhere (none are below 10, at least), he impressed me so much that I made him a count before he was of age, and made him a duke when he turned 16, controlling 3 provinces. He coundn't accomplish much since said provinces are the smallest in all the kingdom, but hey, a genius like him could turn a small duchy into a potential kingdom, right, after all, I started with a single county, and look at me today, I'm a king!
Years pass, he becomes an ally of my other count, fights back a few barbarian invasions, and builds a few province improvements over the years... But doesn't seem that interested in conquest, his armies are only on the field when there's an invasion on his lands, he seems happy enough with having kids and managing his duchy... Or so I thought. A year ago, he had the declare war on ME, the very liege he apparently was fiercely loyal to, and who entrusted him, a mere bastard, with not one, but 3 provinces and the title of duke!
How dare him! I threw a small part of my armies against his small force of around 800 men, and took the provinces and titles back. I made him renounce every single claim he had, and I soon found out what he had been doing all these years: Somehow this brat created some claims on ALOT of my titles, including the one of KING of lithuania! What the hell.

Instead of banishing him, I forced him into vassalage, so his family shall stay unde my rule, they will not suffer for his crimes. Apparently him and my other duke (who's his ally) were planning a coup against me, and his ally was supposed to join him when he declared war against me, which he didn't.

I shall keep the other duke in power instead of risking my already tarnished reputation by stripping him of his titles, he won't live enough anyway, not even worth of assassins. From now on, the only dukes in my kingdom shall be my sons. I won't give ingrate courtiers any more chances.

I wonder if he was temporaly insane, I mean, even if both dukes attacked me at the same time, their armies are several times weaker then mine, they wound't even have time to take a single province before being slaughtered. This game's AI is tricky.

Maybe he actually already had a claim? Unless you started as king, chance are that the last king still had relatives scathered around with legitimate claims to the kingdom.

A similar situation happened in a previous game. A duke in the kingdom of Croatia, also brother to the king, had a legitimate claim over the kingdom. Despite being loyal, he eventually declared war on Croatia... only to have some other opportunist Duke forge a claim for himself and steal the kingdom away from the both brothers. Yup, the opportunist (and backstabbing) Duke was me. The funniest part being that the duke of slavonia, who still had a legitimate claim on MY kingdom, eventually became not only my vassal, but also the most loyal of all the ones I had. He basically won a war against Hungary by himself to defend me  :o

Seriously, the AI is so stupid in his war declarations. I've had France declare war on my kingdom over a simple county claim. At that time, "France" had been reduced to a 5 counties, 2 disloyal vassal and 4 wars going on against former vassals. I mobilized a single regiment, managed to loot 80% of "France"  ;D but still could get the king to accept white peace... silly AI.

Dakk: It seems your vassal just did what we all do when we are vassals:-)
alexwazer: Make sure you have difficulty (aggressiveness) set to Coward or Weakling. It keeps the AI from doing too many stupid wars.

And, for the record, I do have an update almost ready. My Snagit trial ran out so batch converting became harder for me. So I am waiting until tomorrow to do it when I have access to another computer with the capability I need.

Thing is, I started as a count, owning a single province, and the kingdom of lithuania didn't even exist by the time the game started, plus that brat was a bastard born from one of my courtiers (the one who became a bishop, ironically), so he wasn't related to any sort of royal family. He just found a way to get a claim to a load of my titles along the years.

It is  :-\  Although in the case of France declaring war, that was weird and probably related to a bug/glitch. We were actually allied and when one of his vassal rebelled and declared war, I accepted to help my ally (France) which lead to my ally declaring war on me... no idea what happened. Also I didn't check the king of France, maybe he was depressed or something. The old, depressed, heirless king of Croatia went on a never-ending war against Germany in another game. He just didn't give a damn about anything anymore.

1142 con't

Despite my debt, the realm's stability is improving
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This is excellent news. If I had money I would host a celebration.

I must admit that despite my wife being an evil reincarnation of my first wife, who was in turn a spawn of satan, I have fallen in love with my wife
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It seems that my desire to marry for skill rather than love turned on me. This is a marriage of love. Now that we are friends I can only hope she does not 'lose' another thousand gold...

Markianos is my wife's 2nd son
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He has finished his education and became a misguided warrior. At the request of my dear wife I am granting him a title:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
With him as Count of the distant province Bilyar it will hopefully make ruling the realm easier and less stressful.

Despite the improvement of the realm's stability and years of peace, some vermin still seek to cause trouble
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The hangman will be busy in Rostov.

Nikolaos, Markianos' younger brother became a tough soldier
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
At the insistence of his mother, my wife, I am granting him a title as well:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He can have fun ruling the rabble in Rostov.

My wife has another son from her previous marriage:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Michael is actually the eldest of her sons, but he is also crazy. I have convinced my lovely wife that he is of more use in my court than ruling a county. We would not want to see the rabble rise up against him because he is different.

I had completely forgotten about my spies I sent to keep tabs on Vysheslav. It seems they are still active and have reported to me that Vysheslav's successor is rather disloyal to me
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I have deliberated with my chancellor and he cannot seem to come up with a good reason for Kuman's attitude... Rad expects the boy will be back to his good ol' loyal self soon enough... hopefully.

Calm and peace have positive effects on the local economy in Galaz
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Maybe the peons will realize that obedience to me is good for their wellbeing for once..

Some local barons have offered to help improve the stability of the realm
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
to accept their help will be a major loss of face for me...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
but I believe that the realm's stability is paramount. If I am to get past my reputation damage and debt I will need a strong, stable realm to support my throne.

1143

This year starts out with a disappointing child
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
My sister's daughter is entirely inadequate to continue her religious education... But, even as a hermit she will eventually make converts. I will not have another woman in my court, if I can help it. The church is the only thing that can keep these she-devils in line.

At least I can be comforted by the fact that I am no longer in debt!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
and I am still healthy and well.

With money in my coffers I have the ability to once again improve my provinces
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I start with a civilian harbor in Karvuna. Access to the Black Sea will be a boon to the economy.

Radoslav Vojislavljevic has insulted me in a tourney!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I demand immediate compensation! Nothing comes of my demands, though.

More troubles with rebels in Ryazan
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
let the rabble hang!

The burghers in Karvuna resent my 'heavy-handed' rule under feudal contract
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I just built these fools a harbor... How dare they... I shall crush them!
Even if it results in revolt!

My next provincial improvement will be in Severin
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Let us hope these people are more thankful for their new mine than the people of Karvuna were for the harbor...

The Karvuna burghers were not kidding before...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
They have gone so far as to raise a militia against me. The fools. I will grin wildly when I order Marshal Ludwig to kill them all.

And kill them he does...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
...in a most heroic way.

Galaz will receive a glass-works
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I will have a statue of myself built atop it to remind the people working there who provided them the jobs...

It seems my just rule in Severin is being appreciated
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
the local authorities have broken up a smugglers ring, hanging the culprits.

1144
This year is off to a better start than the last
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The realm is off to a strong start of year...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I am getting older, but I still have a youthful flair that keeps me capable.
I have decided to grant my sister's son, Trpimir, a title
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He is a fine man, and should do well as a count. I am also planning on moving back to Belgrade, my original home. Rus is too saturated with heathens and pagans and Muslims. Trpimir will get Ryazan
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He can deal with those rebellious peoples.
Now my demesne is no longer split
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
it will be much easier to rule contiguous provinces.

I order the construction of a glass-works in Turnu
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
and to think, this province was once full of backwards Pagans...

Over time, my nobility has come to view my feudal contract rule as a pact among equals rather than a firm hierarchy with me as the ruler. At first I saw this as a harmless delusion on part of my vassals, but now they have actually begun to 'advise' me on how to rule. Today, they advised me to open up my laws of succession!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
How dare they question me!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And now I understand why Kilic was so grateful for my laws of feudal contract at the beginning of this year! He saw it as an opportunity to more power!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Now that I have put him in his place he is disloyalty incarnate!
Rad, my chancellor, advises me that his utter lack of loyalty to me may be a temporary setback. The man may just be unhappy with how I publicly put him down and humiliated him. Over time he should get over it and return to his previous state of loyalty... Regardless, the man is old... maybe I'll get lucky and he will die soon, passing his titles to an impressionable little boy... we'll see...

1144 con't later...

I am not sure what my plans are now...
The whole issue of vassal loyalty is annoying I hope the count of Vladimir doesn't do anything stupid... his loyalty is going up monthly, but while its so low I am afraid he will act out.

So, my first priority will be to wait that out...
As for revolts? no plan to actively stop them. The Prince is sick of the peasants acting up and will continue to farm prestige by hanging them.

Long(er) term plans include taking back my Karnten claim in the west and thoroughly punishing whoever is in charge when I do so...

I also want to somehow get a King title...

I need some chances to improve my reputation, I've been stuck with a tarnished one for years now, I can't properly wage wars with such a bad reputation.

Anyways, things are looking up for me ever since my vassal's revolt, one of my youngest sons has became a true prodigy, giving him excelent stats at the age of 8, which will improve alot by the time he's 16. If his education goes well, he'll surpass even me if his education goes well (I have 16 martial and diplomacy thanks to the prodigy trait). I'll have to pull some strings to get him in the front of the succession line, but thats easy enough, I just have to give him a few titles before I die and he'll inherit the kingdom.
His two older brothers will not be pleased.

Regarding the LP: Awesome stuff so far, maybe loving a devil is better then marrying a chaste, infertile statue of a wife? I also find it lame that the only way you can end to end revolts is by giving in to the demands, I wish we could just eliminate it by sheer military force, at least as an option.
