1133My brother is fully educated
He is a knowledgeable tactician
and only rather loyal to me...
The realm is expansive but inefficient
Income is down and my reputation is still tarnished
But I am still young and healthy...
Rebels at my doorstep!
The revolt has spilled over from Severin. I've ordered more hanging ropes prepared in Belgrade.
I order retribution hangings in Karvuna
thats what they get for spreading rebellion to my home province!
Following my court's advice I am building a church in Rostov
and Ryazan
My court says this will be the best way of ending the pagan menace in the area.
It seems my reputation and lack of a properly skilled chancellor have caught up with me
The Duchy of Carinthia has declared war. The duke has a claim on Padua which he is likely trying to fulfill. Don't these fools have historians to remind them what happened when they warred my dad in 1114?
I am deferring command of the war to my brother. He suggests we sit tight, see what forces they bring at us. Given our financial situation I've heard mumbled suggestions of giving Padua up from members of my court... Kaloyan believes he can defeat the enemy on the field, but also warns me that the cost will be great should we send troops in from Belgrade. So for now we will wait and try to recover some tax revenues before raising any regiments.
The Severin clergy request aid in a time of trouble
These are the same clergy that failed to convince the Severin people to not rise against me when malaria was threatening the area... I deny the alms.
A noble named Ludwig arrives at my court, he says he holds a claim on a title of my enemy
I grant him a position in the court
He has a claim on Istria.
He is also an excellent soldier...
The enemy arrived in Padua. I authorized Kaloyan to mobilize the garrisoned forces and engage the enemy
the result was a
very quick battle. It seems the enemy retreated at first sight of my army.
Kaloyan will now march on Verona. I also received a report that the title of Istria was granted to a vassal... Clever move- now I cannot force the enemy to recognize Ludwig's claim in peace negotiations.
But to my luck, a new claim holder arrives at my court
I accept Burchard in my court
He holds a claim on Krain, the Carinthian capital.
After capturing Verona Kaloyan was forced to return to Padua to fend off an enemy seige
Moments before Kaloyan arrived in Padua, the siege was reinforced. Kaloyan is outnumbered 4491 to 3794... I will resist raising new regiment(s) for now... it would take too long for them to get there to help out in this battle anyways... I
could order Kaloyan to retreat, and then maybe reinforcements could get there before he gets engaged again, but I'll likely lose Padua and maybe even Verona, all while suffering attrition and possible combat loses to Kayolan's regiment should he be pursued.
If he loses, I will disband his regiment and save up more money before raising more... maybe even follow my court's advice and give up Padua.
Extra worries I do not need right now
while I am glad she is with child, I find the timing to be poor... I've got plenty enough on my plate as is...
By golly, he did it
772 men lost and only 609 killed, but victorious. My brother is a knowledgeable tactician indeed...
I've also discovered that my sister Theodote and her husband are in my realm... I guess Dalmatia was not good enough for them (or maybe fell in war)
Rad is a great diplomat. Just what I needed! And while I am reorganizing my court...
I have appointed Ludwig as marshal. Originally I held off because I expected him to be taking the title of Istria as a result of this war- but with that out of the question for the time being, I will utilize his skills as marshal. Sorry brother, I know you won an awesome battle for me and all but thats how it goes...
My skills are back to acceptable! And, with my new chancellor, I will propose peace
I propose that Burchard, my new court member, be installed as Count of Krain.
On the eve of another victory at my brother's hands
the Duke of Carinthia declines my peace...
The current state of war is deteriorating the productive state of my realm
That's too bad. Maybe if my peasants weren't wasting time rebelling but were working instead things would be different.
Oh dear... I just got some bad news
My brother Kaloyan has been severely wounded in battle.
But even wounded he leads his regiment to victory against a larger force
I will need to repay him for his service somehow.
Constantia's fishery suffered a particularly bad year
Let them suffer! What did they expect? Me to rescue them at
my expense while they are revolting against me? Bah!
My empty coffers are causing severe deterioration in the state of law and order in my realm
Things are getting bad... very bad... I will try to maintain the current level. Else the realm may completely collapse on me...
My brother has taken Aquileia
his small force has single handedly achieved what I expected only possible with an entire army.
I send my sister's kid to the monastery
I don't have time to be worrying about her.
My own son, on the other hand, is more important to me
I send him to be raised by a local noble.
Just because I was willing to help maintain the stability of the realm doesn't mean I am willing to compromise with traitors
I hang more treasonous Rostov peasants
