You need better martial skills.

My Martial has like 12 martial skill, why can't HE lead my troops?
As far as I understand, your marshall leads the first army you rise, APART from the capital-province army, which your ruler always leads himself.
And yeah, the rock-paper-scissors, plus technology focus might be where the problem lies.
that works only for their main province. when they have 2, and it is the second that you need to find, it becomes a bit harder.
Can't you just, you know, change mapmode to political(or whatever it's called. the one with a little flag) and zoom out to see all the  provinces anybody you got selected controlls?

Don't forget to appoint a marshall, 12 is actualy a pretty low value for a count/duke/king.

No, my Marshall has 12 martial. I was confused on the spelling.

actually, 12 is quite good, unless you are focusing on a warrior king. I usually prefer sending children to the court to raise stewardship and intrigue ( either works) so that I can manage the empire I build.

In the current game,  however, my rulers seem to be hopelessly warriors. I sent the child to the court, and he is becoming a competent marshal. at least, he has average stewardship and intrigue (6-7)

But then, life was also easier when I was running around here pretending to be a man, so I guess I should just "man up" and get back to work.

I love Nikephoros. Nothing like a romantic warrior king who actually fights a dragon early on and later recovers from his wounds.
Also, in my experience there isn't really much point fiddling around with daughters' marriages. Chances of anything coming of it except for losing a nicely skilled courtier are very slim.
Recalling my last game a couple months back, I'd recommend Ireland to anyone. I started as the count of Mide, and pledged allegiance to Leinster. Leinster later came to control Ulster, and in a war with Munster I managed to become Duke of Munster. I was great friends with the Duke of Leinster, and he fostered his son in my court. Our sons were great friends early on, and I arranged marriages of my son to his daughter and his son to my daughter (Can't remember exactly how I managed to catch that opportunity, probably a mixture of luck and assassination). Needless to say, half a century of great friendship between the duchies culminated in a union of our crowns. I quickly declared myself King of Ireland, and vassalized Connaught.
I went on to go crazy in the next generation, and thus decided to create the first absolute monarchy, stealing all my vassals' lands.
DV is probably my favorite paradox game thus far, I think I'll get DVIP if I have a chance.
And yeah, we want an update!

actually, from the marriage of a daughter I will soon get a province. or maybe that was from the wife of a past prince? it is quite hard to keep track of everyone, mainly since I send most sons, brothers and whoever else is in the family to rule a county. Eventually, I'll inherit the whole russia probably.

edit: when the child inherited the titles, a vassal decided to rebel and the child got the trait "realm duress". Now, situation is mostly ok, but will the trait ever go away?

Ugh, I gotta get back to playing, been too busy with MtG. My arthurian duke is falling apart from old age, which is sort of a relief since his ridiculously low intrigue keeps him from managing multiple provinces properly. I'm just sitting around upgrading my provinces and accumulating prestige and piety, watching my sons (all counts) manage their own provinces. My youngest one turned out to be my favorite, he's a brilliant tactician with 14 martial and 11 intrigue, he'll make a fine leader, too bad he's the 3rd in the line of succession.

My old Serbian kingdom is falling apart, my king was wounded when hunting, the wound made him ill and the illness gave him consumption, leaving him able to control only 3 provinces directly, unfortunately I had 7 because that was how many he could control before getting majorly ill. Then my vassals and my vassals' vassals all start rebelling and my damn bastard son who has terrible stats wise decides that because I gave him a single county to control he can declare himself my successor, placing him in line before my legitimate son who has the really good stats and is due to inherit all the cool claims from his grandfather.

I know I know I am falling behind.
Its tough with the holiday- I am off my normal schedule and have been busy doing... holiday things...
Like, I spent most of today preparing for a new years party and stuff.
I honestly have not played any game in the last several days...
I've taken off work the whole week too, yet somehow I feel like I have less time than normal ???

You both have the wrong succession laws.  It's funny that if you both switched sucession laws, you'd be happy!
Dakk: Change the laws (under laws in the kingdom menu where you enter for research, laws, and council members) so the strongest son inherits, and make sure your favorite has more or equal counties under his control than his brothers.
Jreengus: Change your sucession laws so the eldest son inherits.  That should make the bastard ineligible in the line of sucession, even if he is the eldest (going by age ignores all bastards).
Both of you should save before messing with the laws, as you want to get it right on the first try, due to the distress to the subjects that changing laws does.  Also make sure the kingdom is stable and making a profit.  Check your character to determine who is the successor before and after law changes.

Nope eldest son currently inherits, I got a little random event trigger saying that my bastard and eldest son used his power to declare himself a legitimate successor or something similar.

bastard sons... they aren't much useful usually. I tried to use them as vassals since they are still part of the family, but they all died without heirs in the dynasty.

Unluckily same is happening to the count of narva, which has no sons. Such a shame, it was a good branch of my family even if rebellious.

well, I'll try to get in a better mood by attacking Denmark and getting the title of king of denmark. I think I got the claim due to the wife of somebody, but I am not sure... neither I care. they can only send 50'000 men to defend their kingdom, I have 3 times that. The extra vassals will be useful.
