It's a shame you can't name your children yourself, instead of them just getting a random name.
Gah that would be awesome for an LP like this.

Are there any small Christian states that border us that might be threatened into either paying us, or becoming our vassal? Otherwise, sit tight and pray they don't see our empty coffers.
Of those two options, sitting tight is most realistic at the moment. I've actually offered vassalation to a couple counts, but they rejected. I don't have the prestige to conquer them at the moment either.

Southern Russia is one big pagan empire. Like big. No chance against them.

Northern (well, NW) Russia and west of there is still populated by all those little pagan independents.
THat area is really easy to get some land in, but it is all piss poor and pretty useless.
Check if Pomerania and Prussia is still pagan. Overall nice provinces there, especially Danzing, Marienburg, Memel. Some of the provinces north of there, in the area of present day Latvia and Estonia are very good also. They start quite splinered, and relatively easy to conquer. Later on, Poland and the Scandinavians tend to invade. The Teutonic Order might also spawn.
They are mostly still splintered and weak. I'll get a map screenshot of the area soon.

I've got a question - what influences your courtiers' loyalty? My Nubian king is suffering from mass emigrations and I don't know how to alleviate it.
Hover over their loyalty rating and it will show you what all their modifiers are.

Just popping in to say that you've inspired me to get this game too. I started off as the count of cornwall but that game went nowhere as I was just learning the ropes at that point, then I grabbed the duke of Kent and forgot to marry.  :-[ And my latest game was the count of Rhodes. I actually managed to capture Samos quite early on when the count defected from the empire, he was count of a couple of mainland provinces so whilst those were under attack by the emperor I captured Samos, then my damn leige lost his county and demanded I hand over Samos, my options being to do as he said and face a ridiculouslt long uphill clim out of debt or else face the entire empire.  >:( Lazy guy doesn't deserve to be a count if he can't keep the turks out of his county!
Good to hear! Learning the game can be a bit tricky, but doesn't take near as much as work HOI, in my opinion.

As for the game, can we become the king of Serbia? I had a look at the area in game and it gave me the option to create the title King of Serbia if I controlled 66% of 8 provinces including some we control I think.
Yes. I have my eye on that title. I'll try to remember to get a screenie of our holdings vs what we need to hold for it.
Right now its out of the question, but I think in a generation we could attain it.

Update coming soon, gonna write it up right after I do a w$r update

It seems the Catholics will be trying to liberate Antiocheia.

And with Crusades comes Crusaders
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Several noble and brave knights seeking fame and fortune (oh, and god) pass through my lands and request my hospitality. To send them away would be costly in the eyes of my peers and god. My prestige and piety would suffer by 25 each. Gold is easier to come by than social standing.
Back in to debt I go!
Hosting the knights costs me 100 gold, but increases my standing with the church by 50 piety. I maintain my zealous trait and gain the amiable trait.

My daughter Eudoxia had a son
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Maybe one day I will meet him.

My new debt is causing troubles int he realm
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
To maintain the current stability level, it would cost me too much prestige and piety. I am forced to accept the stability loss. That's too bad.

My son is a pawn...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It is a good thing he is not the eldest...

The year winds to an end
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We are back in debt, still with a slightly tarnished reputation...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'm not sure why.

My second daughter turns 16.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I look for a potential suitor, but find no one satisfactory. I will wait to marry her.

A young courtier in my realm is looking to duel his rival, the marshal of Corfu.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I will allow it- if his honor needs to be proved, let it be done.
Nothing comes of the duel, both men survive unharmed.

Back out of debt!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I can only hope to stay in the positive.

My boy Sabas is proud.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Good. He needs to be a strong ruler and pride will help.

November brings the death of my spy master.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
She will be missed. Surely her illness contributed to her early death.
I appoint my daughter Theodora as a replacement.

1095
They refuse.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have found a suitable suitor for my daughter
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He is the son of the Count of Csanad
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
who is the son of the Duke of Pest.
Should the marriage be accepted, my daughter will be in line to be the Duchess of Pest in two generations passing and the Countess of Csanad in one.

The marriage goes through!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oiy... my youngest is a sissy
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

1096
It is a new year
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Things are going well.
My children are growing, my two daughters are married off, I am not in debt, my reputation has recovered and the realm is at peace. Unfortunately the realm is at -1 stability.

Sabas is of age!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He takes after me in looks (I can be sure he is mine)!
I immediately look for a bride for my eldest son
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Grunnhild, a woman of little social status is a capable steward in Gotland. She also carries a good bit of Norwegian beauty... She is the daughter of a seemingly insignificant man...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Although he carried no noble blood down his family line, he is Beatified, the first step to sainthood and he was held with high regard socially among his peers and in the eyes of the church. He also seems to have a line of martial boys.
She is a potential mate.

But then I find another potential bride...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Maire Ua Canannian, a Gaelic woman with a great personal skill set catches my attention.
She is the daughter of the Count of Tir Connail.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
She would make an awesome Chancellor and has the skills to back up other positions as well. She would make a great breeding partner.
I decide that Maire Ua Canannian is the better bride for my Sabas... I send the marriage request...

Accepted!

Looks like if we want to be king of Serbia, our best bet would be to grab Naissus and Ragusa who are both independent counties and then that little two county state between us and Ragusa. That should give us the 66% (75% really) we need to make the title. Of course wether you want to do that now after we just climbed out of debt is up to you.

Prince of Wallachia might be easy to get it all depends on who owns Turnu, since it doesn't have a shield over it I'm assuming it belongs to a prince and if he is in a powerfull nation/just plain powerfull it might be best not to agrivate him. Although whoever it is is pretty damn isolated from Turnu, it looks like its a religous enemy from the larger map and if it is the guy who is like 3 counties away (to the north and slightly to the east) it might be possible to make a land grab then sue for peace before he can get the bulk of his forces over to us. (Although I feel like I'm being hopefully optomistic there considering how long my seiges normally take...)

Prince of Temes would be the easiest to get right now.

Aren't both the counties for that part of Hungary? Or whatever that big grey empire above us is. That was why I was avoiding them in my suggestions.

Turno is part of old Penecheng tribe.
THey can raise ~5000 soldiers while I can get half that.
I am waiting for them to get involved in a war... then we could strike.

The other provinces are all Christian and require claims, I am short prestige for them, but time will open those options up...

Oh, hey, the Borkalans.  They had a bit of a moderately important role in a game I showed at the Paradox forums way back before Deus Vult came out.  :)  (The odd part of that being that it was all the way over in England)

Fairly good so far, but some expansion needs to be done... doesn't seem to be any easy options, either.

Also:  High stability and a court of justice makes thieves guilds go away quicker (the court reduces the mean time to happen to 1/10 of what it was before, so that's a huge help).  Also, as long as the province's military force is moblised, the event to remove it won't happen.
