Try and get the provinces surrounding it, too, those matter in making the crusade end earlier.  Aside from that, it could just be horrible luck, the way events work in this game means they can sometimes take much longer (or much shorter) than they should to fire.

And an Orthodox ruler conquering a crusade target still counts equally as much as a Catholic ruler, so that doesn't factor into it any.

Aye, I remember quite clearly with my other orthodox duke. I decided to raise my troops against some pagans that conquered a province, causing a crusade to happen. After I steamrolled them, a year or two later the crusade ended and he gained the crusader trait.

I'll just steamroll the muslims a bit and see what happens, if that doesn't fix it, then

Wow, this dredges up memories and made me dig up and reinstall CK-DV. So do you recommend the DVIP+Addon mod? I see a lot of events in this thread that are unfamiliar, I'm assuming that's where they came from?

This is an Alder Omelette. All craftsdwarfship is of highest quality. It is encircled with bands of cheese. It menaces with spikes of bacon, ham, and peppers. On the object is an image of dwarves in egg white. The dwarves are eating.

Squeee, just bought this. No DV expansion for me, yet, though.

Any warnings before I spend all week on this game?

Take things slowly, and, for your dynasty's sake, don't conquer too fast, or you WILL be eradicated.

Well, after playing a few times, and being completely confused by what exactly I should have been doing, I found the cheat button. :(

Dont click this unless you want your game to be ruined completely, or you already know:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So after playing a game with cheats, I thought, "No, why am I doing this? New game, no cheats gogogo."

Only problem is it crashes every time I hit surrender in the main menu. Not right after, but a few minutes or so. Every time.

Oh, and I bought DV. Anyway, I really want to figure out just how to conquer a province. I know its after the siege, but I always run out of money and end up being several hundred gold in debt due to upkeep. And thats just not worth a bit more income. Surely there's a way around that somehow, apart from being ridiculously rich beforehand or cheating.

A province is something you should keep for ages, so that sometime, you will start making profit.

Anyway - why do you spend hundreds of gold? Usually it should be a swift operation of besieging and immediate peace-making.

So, if I've besieged the enemy province, then I can ask for peace, with me as title-owner, and its likely for me to get it? Because I've been waiting for the siege to finish, and that takes way too long. By the time its over, Im in debt.

Because that would be incredibly annoying and frustrating if you only need to besiege+ask for peace.

Ok you besiege the province and you'll see a picture of their castle with a bar underneath it, when the bar has run out you control the province and demand it in a peace negotiation, if it is their only province they will be forced to accept whatever they offer you. If you are taking too long to besiege provinces chances are your army is too small you can increase your army size by increasing the income in your province(s) as the number of men raised in a province is related to that provinces income. At the bare minimum you want at least 1k men after any big battle with the enemy troops. otherwise what with casualties during the siege it will probably end up stretching out for ages.

UPDATED?!?!?!
YES.

1148
It has been more than one year of peace and prosperity in my realm. My kingly realm...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
While my wealth is not amazing, my prestige amongst peers is great, and the church sees me in a pretty good light as well.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I also thank god every day for my health and wellness.

My boy Dauid is well beyond his age when it comes to girls...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Good, hopefully he'll rear me many strong grandchildren when he gets older.

It seems Dauid's traits are not very forthcoming for a clergyman...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'll send him to the training camp- he'll be more at home there, I believe
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Today I met with my advisers and court to consider the regional situation
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
To my amazement they tell me that Byzantium is holding strong along my southern border.
The region is otherwise occupied mostly by strong(ish) unified kingdoms, which I consider a very good thing. They will act as a buffer against any foreign heathen threats.
But, mostly is the key word...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Pechenegs are still firmly entrenched to the northeast. Again, this is both good and bad. It will provide me with an opportunity to keep my troops' skills fine-tuned but it also means my troops may need to fine-tune their skills when not ready.

The Patriarch asks that I grant an itinerant bishop a place in my court
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yes please! I am in need of a competent bishop...

The school in Belgrade is finished

Woa, I also just noticed this has eighty-eight hundred views, that makes this the second most viewed thread on this board, only bested by Let's Play The Bay Sims 12 2! - Under New Management with an impressive 12,300+ views.
As such, I promise to continue this AAR/Let's Play assuming that is still desired. I apologize for the long time between this and last update- crap gets in the way all too often, ya know?

1149

We celebrated the new year in Severin.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The glass-works was completed and the local minor nobility hosted a great feast to celebrate.
I gladly participated in a toast to my health and wellness
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Things are really looking good for me. I am King of a mighty realm with three strong boys, one already grown and making his way in life. I've got eleven vassals loyal to me, and a number of courtiers helping me to rule. And best of all: I have good health.
I continue to rule out of Belgrade, my family's long term home
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I have over fifty thousand men capable of serving in my levies, and my reputation is respectable.

During my new years visit to Severin the local clergy indicated the need for a monastery
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I have decided to fund the project from my personal treasury.

The rest of 1149 passed by without major event. I have taken to a new game from the far east, one with pieces on a board representing different troops- there are elephants and kings and queens and holy men and peasants. It is all very logical and difficult. I occasionally play with my youngest son, which is nice because I can beat him. Rad, on the other hand, is a different task- that man is smart and bests me every time.

1150
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The realm remains strong. My lands are like a snake following the Danube, branching off to find the Adriatic. A great long mighty snake- of awesomeness.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I am strong, thank god, and well received amongst my peers.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We remained surrounded by Hungary, Croatia, and Byzantium.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I am on the frontier of Orthodoxy. Catholics are firmly entrenched to the north and west. Pagans to the north east and Muslim heathens to the east and south, safely separated with Byzantium between.

Juraj Count of Veglia has proposed a marriage between his marshal Mihail and Adriana.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Adriana is the daughter of my sister, Theodote and my genius chancellor, Rad
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sure.

Today was an amusing day. A knight offered to teach my daughter, Vezhav, his trade
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
My daughter Vezhav... He offered to teach my daughter the ways of combat. Ha!

My boy Macbeatha is turning out to be quite the chauvinist
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Age 12 and already knows he is the son of a King. Har.

Recently I have been hearing rumors that my son is discontent with my rule
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I do not understand his motivations. He is my heir apparent, is he too impatient for me to age and die? The boy can wait. I did.

My sister has passed
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I met with Rad. The man is holding strong. I hope he stays strong, should he fail during an important diplomatic meeting I would be in trouble.

My son, Dauid has become a man
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Time to find him a wife.
The Queen of Poland is available
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I wonder if she would be interested in marrying a Prince? I send an envoy with the offer.
While thinking of titles, I have decided to usurp the title Prince of Dioclea
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Radoslav is undeserving of the title
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I cannot force him to recognize me as the rightful Prince right now, though. for I still have a truce with the Prince.

The Queen of Poland declined my marriage proposal for my son
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The search for a bride continues.
While exploring family lines and suitable wives to the west, I have found an amusing fact:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Pope of the Catholics has a bastard son, despite his celibacy. Har har har. Catholics...
Runa Knytling, daughter of he King of Denmark looks to be a suitable bride for my son
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I send an invitation of marriage to the north and west.

Harald King of Denmark has accepted my marriage proposal between Kuna and Dauid
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Excellent.

With another son married off, I need to find lands for him to rule
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
His older brother, heir to my Kingdom, is poised directly to my east, being groomed to rule all my lands. Dauid, on the other hand, will be my frontier son. He will help expand my power to the east.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Chiefdom of Crimea on the Black Sea is an independent pagan state. A perfect place for Dauid to rule; safely away from the temptation of conflicting with his brother by the Danube but also in a place to act as a strong buffer for the kingdom- and a way-point between our heartland and our Rusland vassals.
Crimea will be mine
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I declare war, and hand the battle operations off to my marshal

He mobilizes my demesne's levies and sends them east, to Galaz.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I march from Belgrade to provide morale support for the men.

But while marching east my steward informs me that our army is costing the realm over 245 more gold per month than we bring in...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I order the marshal to disband all but his own regiment and complete the war on his own
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
His forty-five hundred men should be plenty to bring us victory.

Already does Crimea beg for mercy
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
How will 169 gold give my son land? Not to mention it comes nowhere near the loss I took from one month of my armies mobilized.
Dauid also closed out his education, proving to be a brilliant strategist- an excellent trait for a future frontier commander.

My marshal has sent reports of his first battlefield victory in Crimea
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
He is laying siege to the local fort and expects it to fall soon.

Rudolf, my marshal, has indicated he thinks Crimea's garrison will surrender within the next ten days
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I look forward to news of his success.

A messenger came to me today- I expected it to be news that Crimea fell to my troops
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Rather, the report was regarding the monastery in Severin.

My nephew Dauid (named after my son) is proving to be a fanatic
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Perhaps he will runt he new monastery when he gets older.

Ahah! Finally news from Crimea
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The pagans have been driven out of their fort and put to the ax.
I send message to the Chief, demanding he install me, King of Serbia, as Count of Crimea
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Which he has little choice but to agree to
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Now, 250 gold in debt, I must let my treasury recover. I increase the Scutage tax to maximum
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
This brings my monthly income up an additional 24 gold to 58.

I have bestowed the title Count of Crimea to my son, Dauid
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The land is by no means prosperous or valuable, but in time I will help to expand his holdings.

Great post again Goron.

I have a question though: I just got this and Deus Vult and I was wondering what people should I attack? Because if I attack one of my own realms countries the king  gets angry and gets his forces to attack me but if I attack some other realm does the same thing happen? (they all gang up on you)

Im playing as a county of vladimir volynsky if that's any help.
