Except there is a difference between savescumming to prevent mistakes, and savescumming to learn information that would not normally be available.

Yeah, but it sounds like you're playing much more conservatively than you need to, and giving yourself permission to savescum here will help you to get a sense of how aggressively you can play. The objective isn't to rely on savescumming as a crutch for cheating to avoid raids, per se, but to develop experience at navigating the raid system without inflicting severe pain on yourself.
