Cave Crawl, experimental. Good news, bad news: On hold
« on: December 10, 2009, 07:22:08 pm »

I want to test my game mechanics and will need three volunteers to help me out. These game mechanics are a modified version of my (unfinished) game but I think that by testing them I will have a better feel over it.

I'll need:
  • Character name
  • Race (anything goes), gender
  • What your character class would be (can be a DF job or whatever you might think of)
  • Some history (You might start with some skills)
  • Patience

My vision:
I want to create a skill/attribute system where the player uses schles* imagination and get something rewarding out of it. That way if schle says:
Quote from: Schle
I want to juggle with my swords.
Quote from: CC CM
{very good roll} You pull out your two swords and weight them in your hands. You begin to swing them up and down to gain momentum. As your left sword is about to hit the peak if the swing you release it. Everyone who is not doing anything watch in anticipation for you to release your other sword. Just as your first sword starts to hover at it's maximum height you release your second sword. As your first sword falls down and your second sword rise you instantly know that you are in big trouble.
Several images floats before your eyes, each one depicting a gruesome cut or chop over your body. You try to shake them off but instead end up in a trance. While in trance everything you look at goes in slowmotion. This unexpected luck make you reach for your falling sword, swing it in a perfect half circle before throwing it up again. This goes on for a couple more swings and as you leave the trance you find yourself in a cheering crowd juggling two swords with no problem. Even better, you do notice a small heap of coins on the ground which you gracefully pick up.

Skill learned: Juggling lvl 0, 60%
Items gained: 3 silver, 57 copper.

Also, since the mechanics I'm going to use from the other game this will be a part of my multiverse so that if I ever finish RTD to a playable state you may use your character from this game in that game.

Cave Crawl, experimental, sign-up
« Reply #5 on: February 10, 2010, 11:29:11 am »

For those of you who do join I will tell you this.
You will have 160 attribute points for Strength, Endurance, Agility, Dexterity, Intellect, Spirit/Willpower, Charisma and Luck. No stat can be lower than 10 or higher than 30. You get 5 preparation points which you can spend on items, abilities/spells or whatever you might come up with.

Also, since this is in the testing stage I might change things on the fly.

I WILL TOTES VOLUNTEER FOR THIS
Name: Cheddarius
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Class: Longbowman
History: Cheddarius loved bows from an early age. When he was young, he bought a small bow with his life savings (admittedly not much). Though small to a grown man, it dwarfed (heh) Cheddarius, and he practiced with it every day to improve his strength and skill. When he was twenty, his town was sieged by goblins, and he volunteered to be in the fortress guard. He shot down dozens of goblins over the long months of the siege, third highest rank in his squadron. Afterwards, he returned to being a simple farmer, but he kept his old Guard bow and always remembered the golden days of yore.

Webadict: You got 10 more attributes you can spend on. And when I said history, I meant your characters backstory. Otherwise good.

Cheddarius: If you don't pick your attributes I'll give you my default attributes for humans. Do you want something like equipment or abilities?

The history thing was a joke. I don't have any history other than he's really, really lucky.

But, I'll put the extra into 5 for Endurance and 5 for Agility.

Don't worry, I'm pretty open minded for silly things.

Name: Frederick XIII
Race, gender: Human male
Class: Wizard Neophyte
History: Frederick XIII is from a long line of adventurers, all named Frederick. When he was four years old, his parents were visted by a wizard, who sensed great potential from young Frederick. After a brief debate, and a small bag of silver, the wizard left with the boy. He spent the next twenty years learning magic. He's had a bit of trouble harnessing his power, and his love of collecting shiny things occasionally got him into trouble. Still, he stands ready to face the trials that will grant him full wizard-hood. (The fast way. He can't be bothered to spend another twenty years reading books.)

Stats:
Strength: 10
Endurance: 20
Agility: 20
Dexterity: 10
Intellect: 30
Willpower: 30
Charisma: 30
Luck: 10

Equipment:
Neophyte's Staff (With a real sapphire inset on top!)
Spell Ring (When a spell is cast upon it, the spell is absorbed and may be recast later. Can only store one spell, but skilled wizards can absorb a hostile spell with it if it is empty.)

Spell:
Mend Wounds
Arcane Fist
Telekinesis

Stats:
Strength: 30
Endurance: 25
Agility: 20
Dexterity: 20
Intellect: 10
Spirit: 10

Name: Wallenius Wilhelmsen
Race: Male Human
Class: Burnt-Out Wizardry Professor
History: He lost his nerve after a disastrous adventure and couldn't adventure anymore. He joined a wizard school but got hooked on Obliviax, the Memory Moss, which he overused and lost most of his magical powers. He was stripped of his teaching position and was unemployed for a long time. He quickly burned through his savings and his grandkids' inheritance. Having forgotten the horrors of adventure he's willing to hit the road again.
Appearance: Looks like House. Not as competent.

Stats:
Strength: 15
Endurance: 10
Agility: 10
Dexterity: 20
Intellect: 25
Spirit: 10
Charisma: 15
Luck: 15

Equipment:
Bag of Memory Moss
Pipe
Engraved Lighter (Magically Efficient)
Cheap Imported Staff

Spells:
Dispel Magic
Detect Magic
Analyze Magic
Control Temperature

(I took only 120 stat points, but 3 extra items. Is that okay? The extra 3 items all suck. I can change things if that doesn't work for you)
