Watch the video.  It's very clearly twirling.

Huh, so this is why Russia cut funding for the project.  Every time I shot down a UFO, I was shooting down a Russian vehicle.  Dern sectoids and their genetic hybrids!

That is a neat lookin' missile though. We should use these things for light shows.

Nobody knows what it was yet.  Well, except the people who put it there.  The Russian missile thing sounds extremely fishy to me, since it looks more like a spiral-shaded spotlight in the sky.

What kind of missile, failed or otherwise, does that?

Are you sure it's not just a visual artifact?

Pretty sure. The same visual artifact will not appear to hundreds of different viewers and be captured on dozens of different video and still camera's.

Okay, I did not know that the missile wasn't visible from Oslo.

Still, it can't just be coincidence that it was launched at that time.  I want egg on somebody's face dammit.

And then the Obamas give their speech at the Nobel Ceremony.

No, the aurora doesn't look like that. I spent enough time on night watch in the military in northern Norway to know...

The US and Russia are in the middle of START negotiations, to be concluded before christmas. A theory is that a successful test of this missile would give the russians better cards on hand at the table.

Why would they need to test new missiles? Surely the ICBMs they have had for decades work?

The US and EU have decided to ignore previous treaties and develop and deploy missile interception technology. The new ICBMs are a direct response to that.

That's the problem, you see. They have had them for decades. most missiles weren't desinged, or at least not capable of, surviving so long and thus launching one of the old boys may cause unintended fun...

Looks like a stabilizing fin broke off/direction thruster failed at some point in the flight. That's my best guess.

It's hard to say what exactly happened, but the spiraling action is likely due to the fuel leak that caused the spiral rather than a a failure of the thrusters. Most modern rockets don't really have large fins that could easily break loose.

Missle spinning is a symptom of a serious rocket-failure. Like loosing a fin.

This russian display of manliness to Norway/Obama lies limp.
It was cock-blocked by Russia's low budget, and spiraled out of control.

I mean, it's not like they would put up fireworks for Obama!
