I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I would vote for the CBM, but if there are strong objections I wouldn't mind just a regular game.  If we don't do CBM, I would very much like to use the unique gemgens mod, though.

Everyone,
I've updated the first post to show where we are.  Outstanding issues before we can start:

CBM, Vanilla, or Unique Gemgens?  I count 3 votes for CBM, 1 for Unique Gemgens, and 3 unknown.

Map: Fixed or unfixed starts?  The discussion was pretty even on that, so unless someone has an unfixed-starts map I would go with what we've got.

I don't really care about fixed vs unfixed starts, but if they're fixed I'll need to check out where they are... I haven't really played maybe non-random maps so I'm not really familiar with them.

On this map, the fixed starts have big dots on them.  It will be totally clear.

It *sounds* like the majority (and/or apathetic enablers  ;)) have agreed on Bering fixed CBM. Are we ready to start then? Should I start making and remaking my pretender?

Okay, so the game is up as Bay12Games2. Settings are, per prior discussion, MA Bering under CBM 1.6, with pretty much every option set to default. I did push sites up to 50, but all the rest is standard. 24h turns to start, with the expectation of that being doubled or tripled eventually.

Turn on the CBM 1.6 mod, design your pretender, and send 'em off to pretenders[at]llamaserver[dot]net, with Bay12Games2 as the subject. Admin keys will be handed off to Belac, so he'll be the person to bug about extensions or whatever.

[Edit: until all pretenders are submitted, settings can still be changed, so if we wanted to do something different there's still time. I recall there'd been at least a little talk of upping indy strength and/or research difficulty to try to delay the onset of the late game. Or we can quite easily stick with it as mostly default. Up to yinz. I'm perfectly happy with things as they are, but I'm also quite flexible and will not protest tweaking either.]
