Possible DF mailing list

People could subscribe to it and as soon as Toady releases a new version he could mail all the people on the list so they know about it right away, what do you guys think?

As a Bay12Platinum member I get a cellphone call one hour prior to the new release, but I guess a mailing list would be cool in case I'm out of batteries.

I have no idea how to manage this sort of thing.  That said, this one random guy emailed me many months ago, and he's the only one that asked for this so far, so I have a list with one email on it.  I'm not sure how I'd collect and manage the addresses though.

Being the forum administrator, could you simply message everyone registered to the boards? It would send an email with the PM text in it.

The only problem i can see is those emails tend to show up very late after the PM is actually sent.

mailing lists are for people who check their mails more often than the dev notes.

Well, after about 10 minutes of Googleing I came up with Dada, it looks pretty easy to install on your web page and it's open source. http://mojo.skazat.com/

If that doesn't suit your purpose just search Freshmeat or Sourceforge for "mailing list", there is plenty of useful looking ones there.

Honestly, the new release coming out will send a shockwave through the fabric of the universe and anyone attuned to the DF frequency will feel it.   Which is to say, a mailing list wouldn't do much.
