Limiting pets

Is there an easier way to limit the number of cats or pets in your game without slaughtering them as kittens, creating traps to kill them, etc.? I'm talking about editing the RAWs

Open the creature_domestic.txt file.

Find

[HOMEOTHERM:10070]

and replace with:

[HOMEOTHERM:40000]

and add

[SEVERONBREAKS]

Problem solved. And does not require a re-gen!

Is there a pay to keep just a couple for vermin catching? Or is it just all or none.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'll just add [VERMINHUNTER] to a different animal.

Keep one at most. And I'd rather suggest going into the raws and removing the THROATs from the cat's body.

Find the cat, look at this line.

After some time, your cats should start to suffocate because they can't breathe. If it doesn't work, proceed with amputating further important organs this way. Heart, lungs and such work nicely.

Remember to re-attach the removed organs after the problem is solved.

Edit:
ALSO, Verminhunter is what makes animals act cat-ish. So you'll have catsploding dogs or cows who happily adopt people.

I would request cats from the mountainhome, blow up all my current cats with thermonuclear catsplosion, then fix their homeotherm back and buy a couple replacement cats from the caravan.

Also, maybe making them an all-male race or something would work, so they'd never breed?

My strategy is to purchase cats from the mountainhome, then immediately kill any female cats.  If a immigrant arrives with a female cat, or a female cat adopts a dwarf before it can be butchered, there are ways to build pet-killing devices that take advantage of pets not following traffic designations to separate a cat from its owner.
