Yep, that is the sense I get, that it is just a way to explain the character of them. Of course, some machines really do have spirits, but they got those from somewhere...

There's also machines, such as the Land Raider, which the 'machine spirit' can take control of. That is, vehicles with onboard computers sophisticated enough to do so.

So mankind's engineers are really just a bunch of crazy priests? Not the weirdest thing in 40k...

Turn 6: FATALITY!!!

I guess I should make amends for stealing the ork's stuff. Warp behind the thingies and chop 'em up with my power blades. And don't patch them up.
(5) Feeling sorry for destroying the Mek's tools, and decide to help by diving into the fight. (1) You warp right into the thick of the group, which is unfortunate because that means right in front of them. (2) Fortunately the monsters are as dumb as rocks and do not notice your sudden appearance. (+2 warp jumper)

Moar Dakka!!! My response to combat is really quite simple...
In the face of of this horrid hoard, you stick to you guns and continue to fire at your adversities. At this range, you can't miss! (3,6-1) you fire like a fiend, bullets spewing everywhere, yet somehow most of the shots hit an enemy, narrowly missing the Eldar who had suddenly appeared next to you. (4,5) monsters fall left and right. (3) You let out a Waaaaagh! and keep up the firing (5) turning a monster to gib (2) Suddenly, your gun stop making the loud DAKKA, and you look over it so see why it had stop. Apparently you need to reload. Huh. That's a first. (+2 Shoota boy)

Head towards all the shooting and snipe some freak-orks
(2) You hear firing nearby, and rush to the fighting. Until you see the Chaos/Orks things. The thought of getting into assault range of Orks scare the crap out of you, and you decide to dive behind cover instead.

I thank the machine spirit and then leap into the fray, using my bolter and chainsword to carve the attacking things into little bloody things.
(6) You thank the machine spirit for it assistance, and charge into the fray with chainsword in hand, completely forgetting about your bolter. (3) You swing at  a monster, managing to get purchase on its arm (4) the arm goes flying, the mutant grabs the stump that was once it's shoulder, and falls over dead.

Check to see if I have some grenades, use one if I do then keep shooting.
(5) Searching through your seemingly endless pockets, you pull out a few plasma grenades and a melta bomb. You realize throwing a metla in the mist of your allies would be stupid on several levels, you throw the plasma grenade into the enemy ranks instead.(6)(3)(2)(2) The grenade explodes like a small star, blinding all those around. Divum and Gobfang see it ahead of time, and cover their eyes, but Alai and the creatures are caught off guard. (5) You fire you rifle onto what remains of the mutants, (4) hitting it in a lung, causing it to fall over and drown on its own blood. (+2 Markseldar)

Quote from:  Chaos Orks
KILL,BURN,MAIM!
(2-3) The remaining abnormal attempts to find a mark, swinging around blindly hoping the find something to kill, but instead falls down the very hole you had dug yourselves out of. (1) the short fall ends with impalement on a protruding girder. it twitches a little bit, then final dies.

Look for more chaos things to kill, burn and maim. If there is no more chaos stuff nearby I'll go back to the valkyrie and start working on figuring out as much as possible about what is transpiring and where I can find more guns and other spess mehreens.

Try to actually be sucessful at something and snipe away as many orcs as possible.

Read the whole Turn and then I suppose see if I can find anything useful among the bodies.

Turn 7: He's Going To Be Peeing Blood For A Month

Flail about wildly! When my eyes are patched up, those monsters are going down!
(4-3) you flail around like your head is on fire, screaming death treats at monsters that don't really exsit. You then feel something grab you. (6) You grab your assaulter and send your knee into it's gut, then bent it over in order to wail on it's kidneys. Only because of the resulting screams of pain that you learn that you're beating the crap out of other eldar. (4) You slowly regain you sight, and gasp at a wounded Handren in the fetal position.

Look for more chaos things to kill, burn and maim. If there is no more chaos stuff nearby I'll go back to the Valkyrie and start working on figuring out as much as possible about what is transpiring and where I can find more guns and other spess mehreens.
(5) Finding that there is no immediate threats in the area, you return to the Valkyrie and once again attempt the radio, now finding that it worked perfectly. You cycle through the frequencies, until you find a open channel for a space marine chapter! You radio in a tell them of your current position and situation (even the part were you are reduced to work with xeno) and that you need reinforcements or at least a pick up. (4) You are told that they are under similar direst, and that they are unable to support you with any reinforcements. However, you are told that there is a similar group nearby in need of assistance, and that there should be a armory along the way And you are given the password to enter. You did not get much, but you at least feel more competent around machinery. (+2 tech-marine)

Notice missing tools, become angry, punch scrap metal into the shape of replacements.
(2) You are unable to create new tools, as you are too busy watching the eldar fighting (or rather curb stomp) each other with amusement. You grab a lawn and a bucket of popcorn from an invisible non-existent compartment in space-time, and watch the brawl in the same way one watches a movie. You offer the Marine and Tau some popcorn, but they politely refuse.

Are the mutants dead? If so try to scout about for...something useful. If not drag Alai away in till he can see again.
(3) From up on your perch on top of the Valkyrie, you look for anything can could be useful, but aside from scrap metal and torn clothing, you do not see much in the way of "useful". (4-1) despite the fact that it's excruciatingly painful, you get down from the ship, and grab Alai before he falls down the same hole as the other creature. You get the beating of your life for it. You also think that your wound is bleeding again...

Read the whole Turn and then I suppose see if I can find anything useful among the bodies.

(2) You poke around the dead that had not be instantly vaporized or turned to gibs, but you fail to find anything useful. However, you notice something odd about one of the corpses. Looking at it, you see a hole in it's lower gut. It is not a bullet wound, but rather looks like some from the inside busted out. Things are just getting weirder and weirder...
