Turn 5: It's Pronounced "Lays"cannon

Ambush whatever is following me and kill it if it is hostile!
(?)You spin around, gun drawn on whatever it is that had followed you. You find nothing there, in fact you begin to think there was nothing there to begin with, a figment of your paranoia. You think you might need something to calm your nerves...

Commandeer the Valkyrie's heavy bolter, patching it up if necessary, and mow down those things. Whatever they are.
(3) You move to the back of the Valkyrie in order to get to it's heavy bolter. It's unfortunate that the enemy is coming from the front of the Valkyrie (even if they were coming from the back, the assault ramp is still up) so you must remove the heavy bolter from it's stand. Once you've disengaged the lock, you learn that it's name is not misleading, as the thing drops like a sack of rocks, you along with it. Now you know why it's so rare for anyone but space marines to carry these things (worse, as you are also carrying it's ammo cache). You manage to get it outside and in a good position, but now you are to tired to fire it.

Dakka Dakka Dakka!!!
You hoist you gun up, aimed at the encroaching monsters. Now you get to do some actual field testing. The thought make you giddy inside. (1,6-1) your firing is erratic, still getting use to using the grip, but you finally hit something (6) the monster drops, chest caving in from the impact. (6) Your weapon remains cool despite convention, but what is the laws of thermodynamics to an Ork anyway? (+1 Shoota boy)

Try to see what the attackers are more specificaly then take aim with sniper rifle and kill the nids.
(6-1) You look down the scope of your rifle to get a better look at the monstrosities charging your position. You think they maybe be some kind of strand of Tyranid, but the closer look shows that they are Orks, at least were before the horrid mutations. On one of creatures you spot what looks like stitches above where its heart should be, in the shape of the 8-point star. Chaos clearly had something to do with this... Seeing enough, you fire at your target. (5) You hit it right in the head (2) but it does not seem to notice, only stumbling slightly. (+2 Chaos Knowledge)(+2 Markseldar)

I man the lascannon on the valkyrie and start blowing shit up. More specifically those things coming at us.
(3) You once again try to persuade the machine in to helping you, telling it nice things, promising it machine oil, and apologizing for your previous actions. (6) The machine spirit accepts your apology, and fires it's lazcannon at the mutants. (5) FREEM! The lazshot smashes into the target (5) vaporizing it easily, (5) then passing through and hitting the one behind it (6) causing it to explode like a frag grenade. Your jaw drops in awe, and yet in the back of your head something tells you that this is going to bite you in the ass somehow.

>Be the mutants

(6) Whatever part of these creatures are still Orks pushes through, and let out a WAAAAAGH! and rushes forward. Or what can be described as a Waaagh! as it sounds more like a stuck grox drowning in it's own blood. However, is passes through dangerous terrain before they are able to reach you. (5) They pass through it effortlessly, and a few in the front reach Gobfang. (2,5) One misses, but the other is spot on (2) but only scratches the paint.

This RTD is awesome.

I guess I should make amends for stealing the ork's stuff. Warp behind the thingies and chop 'em up with my power blades. And don't patch them up.

No, not really, that's what I meant: Orks are simple.

If you eat an ork, do you start sneezing out snotlings?

I thank the machine spirit and then leap into the fray, using my bolter and chainsword to carve the attacking things into little bloody things.

What exactly are the machine spirits anyway? My knowledge of 40k comes exclusively from dawn of war, which barely mentions them.

hm, well, I'll try not to go into pages of the stuff but basicly Machine Spirits inhabit all Mechanical things and the Adeptus Mechanicus tend to equipment in both physical and spiritual sense.

Someone else can fill in the rest as typing pages upon pages of 40K fluff means I might get something wrong.

Are machine spirits 'real' or just a cultural thing to explain their character? If they are real, where do they come from? It stinks of chaos if you ask me...

I think 'machine spirits' are just a superstition. Haven't YOU ever felt like there was a spirit governing you machine (see: Random Number God)? Now imagine if in 38,000 years people seriously believe in that.
