So, I'm assuming something like we're trying to outfit everyone in armor first, before thinking about making weapons or something?

I suspect you've never tried doing many illegal things yet in your game. The second the CCS knows you're "active", they'll come down on you like the hammer of God.

More that feline weapons are fairly weak, and likely won't be entirely worth the effort unless you have both steel and high-quality weaponsmiths. Neither of which we have in large quantities.

That, and taking on enemies armed with naught but claws and teeth is kinda badass.

Unless we have a serious lack of metal it's probably worth it to have him grind out copper hatchets or something. They'll sell decently to traders and skill him up.

Thanks.

I'll have more soon - I've been distracted. Meaning, I got Half-Life 2 recently. :P

Also, I think I found out why I haven't been seeing any humans around - Turns out that being ITEM_THIEF means that trade is broken... Three, four years in and I still have 0 exported goods value. So I added a new progress trigger to the human entry, which might (I hope) fix it for now. I'll have to turn cats back into BABYSNATCHER for fortress version, though. Or something. That will mean that worldgen will be broken for cats though, since it'll end up with every cat civ being catless...

Aargh.

Anyway. I also did a temporary mod changing the names of five large fish creatures to the other sentient races... so now people can chow down on elf meat while wearing dwarf leather clothing. Needless to say, this is not a permanent addition to the mod, as it would be very strange to embark by a river and see that it's full of dwarves.

Only if the river is not also full of ravenous, bloodthirsty CARP.

Wait. That would be dwarf chunks.

Nevermind, carry on.

At last, I've come into real power! As the Mayor, I can finally pull some sway around here! I can't wait to get to work. I don't know what Bengali's had planned, but that's over now. It's my turn to dictate the fate of this town!

Aw crap.
They voted me out.
First thing they did was insist on an election, and the son of that armor and fishmonger beat me out.
Sad thing is, I know it was a sympathy ploy, after his older sister died of natural causes - the first such at Screampacks in decades. What timing. What bloody timing.
Next year, perhaps... Next year I'll have my deserved authority.
For now, I'll just have to see how much I can play the seniority card.

Finally the Plan is back on track. My wife just had our third child today, but sadly only one. We had a ceremony today for the Births that Never Were. I figure our family being traditional and thus familiar will help make everyone more comfortable with us. Now that my son Xteosa Waxdent was elected, we can get the Council's plan back on track. It's a shame Bengali won't be around to see what he started, but such is life and such is death. And such are long-range plans for those of our race. I'd hoped for my eldest to take the seat, but such was not to be.

Perhaps the town in general has been musing on such things, as a carpenter seemed particularly inspired. He built a magnificent casket out of willow, decorated with rings of larch and spikes of willow. Growlblossom the Certain Lock. I think this will go very nicely as a gift to the Council's agent when he arrives next Spring, if all goes as planned.

Nope! Hung around in them a bit, but no sleeping.

In other news, we have a bona fide guard. Five of the recent immigrants were chosen to joine the military, and one of them didn't last long before getting a spine injury. He now patrols the grounds with his copper club.

Every guardsman gets a base-quality copper club. The thought is that this will make beatings much less likely to kill someone.
Other than that, there aren't really any weapons.

I feel proud! I have officially completed my first project as Mayor. The Council's agent will have quite a fine living space! I'm sure he'll be pleased. And there's plenty of room for him to work on his project, right in the comfort of his room!

You should check to see if any of the dwarves are wearing cat leather items.

Then we can give our relatives' remains a proper burial, perhaps with the dwarves still twitching inside them.
