"I know not nor care not what happens to your kin in your realm, demon. Serve, and you will return to them. Fail me, and you shall be banished to an even darker pit than your own."

A pedestal rises from the floor. On it is a map. The colors in it look wrong, but you cannot place how.

The monster before you points to the X on the map. "We are here, Demon."

It points to the city. "And the Warlord is in Xilitihicalicl. It is as I am, but twice as large and with eyestalks. You will know the Warlord by the many demons which surround him, and by the crown upon his head."

A soldier cannot be expected to fight without their shield.

"The Warlord of Xilitihicalicl poccesses weapons and armour of unnatural demon-metal. Not even the finest mortal blade can peirce it. You, with your demon-spear must slay the Warlord."

You take a good look at the map.

You are next to what appears to be an ocean. Above you is a large cliff face, with a river of green falling down the edge. On top of the cliff is a plateau with a vast dome.

The being chitters at you and points at a wall. Your shield is there.

"Take your shield. No more questions. Go now."

Take shield, and find a treacherous path up the cliff.

It's kind of a long way. You may want to look for some kind of transportation.

take a step
then take two steps
then take 4 steps
then take 8 steps
then take 16 steps
etc. untill you have taken EXACTLY 5 steps.

Armok, are we using a short, an int, or a long type for the number of steps?  And even if there was wrap-around, you'd still be in an infinite loop by my count, as all numbers would be even.  Alternatively, he would stop after exactly five steps, which would be halfway through his taking 4 steps.

(I've got it, we could do it over mod 10, because 7+8=5!)
