At least temperatures were off, but they're kinda boned.

What are we supposed to tell from that screenshot?  Are you sure the pipe wasn't pre-revealed?

If that is a frozen brook/stream on the upper right, maybe it was.

Since you have temperature off, I don't think you would get the digging cancelled: Warm stone detected thing.

I am sure - I loaded a previous save and checked.

And yes, if you have temperatures off, you get warm stone located warnings.

Is it possible that this bug caused the magma pipe announcement to pop up long before it was actually revealed, and you dismissed the message without noticing?

Uhm. I don't think so.

Was this a reclaimed fortress?  If not, I'm out of ideas.  I couldn't find any similar reports, and without any clues regarding special circumstances that could have caused the bug, there's probably not much Toady can do to track it down.

One last thought -- what happens if the top of the magma pipe freezes over? I've seen this happen with glacier magma pipes before, but I can't remember if I got the notification or not. It might be possible to "discover" the top of the pipe without actually revealing any magma...though I can't see as how that would skip the discovery message.

I'm pretty sure you only get warm stone warnings if temperature has been turned on at least once. This means that if temperature has never been turned on for the fortress, stones won't be warm, but if you turn it on then back off, the stones will warm up and stay that way.
