Colleges are all like that. My college was like 70% females, which is pretty much average, so all friend groups were unbalanced.

I normally get on fine with people. At least, the people who aren't still obsessed with being "cool" I just confuse the hell out of them by being about as cool as a blast furnace.
By cool I mean temperature-wise, as blast furnaces are pretty damn awesome.

Be gentlemanly without showboating it. It works fairly well, I've found. Cautious persistence can work wonders also. If a girl hates you the first time you talk, it may just be a bad time for any number of reasons. Being sympathetic and empathetic can help them through problems and you with making friends of them.

You might want to be careful about the "friend" stuff... at some point (the sooner the better)... If you like her... You'll want to make her aware that you want to be something more or you'll be stuck with "just a friend" label... and you're probably screwed.   

The problem with us is that we've watched too much commercials telling us how funny, charming, sexy, perfect we have to be... Of course, they pretend that we can achieve that by buying X product, and more, and more...

My female friends talk about tampons and cramps and stuff right in front of me.  They just laugh when I ask them to save those conversations for when I'm not there.

My female friends talk about tampons and cramps and stuff right in front of me.  They just laugh when I ask them to save those conversations for when I'm not there.

Seriously. My female friends put me through horrible shit regularly. I was deemed, rather literally, the shopping donkey. Whenever they want to go shopping at all they drag me out of my house and make me carry literally everything. And then complain(alot, loudly) when I burp on accident and spend five minutes apoligizing hastily and profusely.
