Mystic16: Deon's 16x16 character set [WIP]

Hello there! I thought that it's time to try myself at character set modding.

I've made only letters and a conifer tree (upwards arrow) changes only.
I was going after a more "fantasy" feel.
How does it look?

It reminds me of that norse tileset someone made--looks bad-ass and would be good for screenshot on the one hand, sorta hard to read on the other.

Personally I'd ditch notches on the tops of the e's and a's, ditto the lowercase h.

I am not sure if it's hard to read, looks ok to me... Probably because I've made it :D.
I am starting a new mod (based on Fall From Heaven lore from FFH2 civilization 4 mod) and I want to make it "from scratch", with everything done by me :). Thus I've started with a character set.

Well we are dwarf fortress players.  We could probably get along fine if the game was translated to ancient Sanskrit as long as there was good wiki support.  ;D

Heh, while we're on this, do you think it's ok to be Luchuirp, not Khazad? I want golems as pets.

It doesn't look like it has a very high readability quotient to me. It probably looks more readable if you've worked on it yourself; I know the feeling.

I keep looking at it and thinking that I'm seeing cyrillic, or latin letters with accents and stuff, or something.


The main point of a font should be to be as readable as possible, especially when it's in something functional, like software. Style is good, but not to the detriment of functionality. After all, DF is clunky enough to understand sometimes.

I removed accents and changed things a bit. I think it's more readable now. Your thoughts?

Being the Luchuirp just seems wrong. I mean, open air dwarves.... it's just not right.

Well, it's for the sake of being able to purchase golems on embark :). Anyway it's just 1 string, and you're already Khazad, it's really easy to change.
Also there needs to be lots of balancing. For now dwarves for some reason always fight elves, be it ljosalfar or svartalfar. I changed all the ethics and tweaked races' personalities, so possibly it's the issue. Moreover ljosalfar and svartalfar fight each other, which leads to a situation where 2 elven races weaken each other during worldgen and dwarves finish them (2 dwarven entities never fight each other, probably because of similar ethics).

Well that is awesome that the Ljos and Svart always fight eachother but too bad they always fight the dwarves. They don't have any thief tags or anything, do they?

Svartalfar are babysnatchers, to make them hostile during the gameplay. Ljosalfar just do it for crazy treecutting dwarves like to do.

Mind that in legends mode you can see the reason to why wars broke out, so if it's a differing ethics issue, you can just read up on what the problem is, and if you don't want war between two certain civs (or at least want it to be less likely), adjust the problematic ethics accordingly.
