The optimal is most likely 150 active members per community. The DF community is larger than that, but if you take into account that many members are inactive, and that there is a vague* split between an upper (DF section, wiki) and lower (Finally section, VN-derivatives) community, it probably comes pretty close (+-50%) I think.

*There are quite a large number of people that spend much more time in one than the other, and those tend to know each other better than those mostly on the other, I'm not indicating there should be any hostility or even clear border between the groups, and some people probably belong to both.

Well there's 138 users logged in now and 162 lurkers. I'd say that's reaching critical mass from a numerical perspective if 150 is the cap, but I only ever see maybe not even 10% of that here at any point in time.

Indeedy, there's always the core of Old guard as well, I'd say they don't want to be over, at MOST, 30-50 people.

And that's stretching it, a LOT.

Do we even have an old guard? It sort of struck me as something no one really cares about.

I doubt anyone does, i just mean along the lines of a core of people most forumgoers recognise.

Like you.

Hmm, are there any sociologists or anything like that around here? It would be interesting to see some kind of graph or other examination on how exactly the community is structured. Just looking at the avible user statistics, and PMing asking pepale what peaple in the comunity they talk to and how many hours a day etc. shuld yeald plenty of data for intresting conclusions.

A few of you lot are definitely recognizable, thanks to you(as in recognizable people) posting alot in this section and having that 1 avatar.

Most likely the same in the top section and mid section.  I just tend to hang in the mid and the bottom section.

I hate lurkers...

And also, idiom, I never said that was your suggestion. I'm still taking it as a hypothetical too.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Do you hate me?
1. You are... I dunno what you are. You are active enough to avoid such a title.
2. And I assume the lurker hate has a meaningful source?
