Wonder if I ought to quit soft drinks, since my entire geneological backround says "at risk of diabetes", although, oddly enough, I may be an exception to that, taking recent evidence into mind.

So do I, it really makes you feel like a pathetic addict if you start to lie about it to people you care about... 1 Year is a long time, well done! The bad news: you'll probably stay addicted for the rest of your life. Don't start again.

So today: 3 cups of coffee, total. That was easy.
Tomorrow: Don't stay gaming until 0:30 but go to bed on time.  :P

And soft drinks are the devil's piss. So much crap in there... Drink water if you're thirsty, and a soft drink for the taste, that seemed to help someone I know.

Beer is manlier and awesomer than soft drinks. And (as far as I know) will not kill diabetics.

Alcohol is not good for diabetics:
Quote
Alcohol can cause hypoglycemia shortly after drinking and for 8-12 hours after drinking.

Also, beer is probably worse for your health than soft drinks.

Well damn.

I still maintain that beer is nicer than soft drinks, and in my opinion better for you. There's nothing in soft drinks but sugar, water and what I often term as industrial waste.
Beer, at least the beer I drink, is a wholly natural product with at least a few things in it that are good for you. Drinking beer in moderation is actually a little bit good for you.

I knew you'd say that :), but drinking moderate amounts (1 or two glasses in a day) of soft-drink is still not much crap you'd get in you.

That beer appears to be better is that one usually drinks moderate amounts of beer, and enormous amounts of soft-drinks, but that doesn't really compare well.

i do not want to tell my war stories, this is not the place.  Suffice to say that most drugs available before Nov 15, 2000 i was seriously addicted to, also, any form of alchohol.  , I wanted to die and I was begining to actively plan it out (my suicide). I am humbly gracious for my sobriety since Nov 15 2000.

August of 2003, i put down nicoteine.

many many attempts at caffiene - still losing.
just fell off of a 10 month no fast food wagon - really annoyed by my poor decision making
thinking about an Overeaters Anonymous meeting, cuz once i got sober and i had enough money to eat, I DID......now I am 40 and my heart is sayin "hey bub, watch it!"

Been a member of AA for 9 + years.  i am willing to offer support and simple advice to anyone who feels a need to listen.

may the God of Your Understanding walk with you always

Wow, my little addictions feel a bit... trivial now. Still, good for you that you've managed to overcome most of those habits.

Caffeine is going great, 2-3 cups a day now.

Gaming not so, it was still 0:30 last night. I totally forget the time, I should set a kitchen-timer.

I'm quitting pot because I can't buy any. Haven't smoked in four days. First night I thought a couple of times "Gezz, it sure would be nice to light one right now." After that, haven't even thought about it until I saw this thread. It's surprisingly easy to quit, taking into account I've been smoking almost every day for the past three years.

Pot doesn't have abstinence syndrome. Among other things, because it builds up in fat, and it's released slowly over weeks.

I'd give it up, but I've never smoked any so I can't.

I don't really think I'm addicted to anything, technically... I certainly overindulge in a few things, most notably good food (I've kept it down to a small gut by walking a lot) and a bit too much of the vidjeo gamez.
