Male/Female graphics.
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:06:47 am »

Is there a way to specify separate male and female graphics? For example, a separate tile for male and female dwarf stonecrafters?

A quick scan of the graphics set repository didn't turn up any that I could use as a model.

Edit: I just noticed Deon's female dwarves in the Stonesense thread. What text do you use to specify male/female?

They are shown only in Stonesense :(. Sadly DF doesn't support it (also it's not hard because all the info is there, Toady just works in a separate direction).

I would love it too because I have to mouseover on every immigrant to check their gender when assigning professions, also sometimes my legendary sheriff suddenly appears to be female. :D

Oh well. It's easy enough to make humans, elves, goblins, etc appear rather androgynous. Unfortunately, there seems to be little way to avoid stout, bearded dwarves, and seeing one of those pop out a baby is somewhat unsettling.

Quote from: J.R.R Tolkien
It was said by Gimli that there are few dwarf-women, probably no more than a third of the whole people. They seldom walk abroad except at great need. They are in voice and appearance, and in garb if they must go on a journey, so like to the dwarf-men that the eyes of other peoples cannot tell them apart. This has given rise to the foolish opinion among Men that there are no dwarf-women, and that the Dwarves 'grow out of stone'.

DF, not LotR.

Dwarven women don't even have beards (by default).

This is how I see my dwarves in my mind's eye. Although when I imagine them as individuals I guess I think more in terms of WoW dwarves...

...All my cool dwarves seem to be females for some reason.

Eh... Estrogen power?
But Dwarves aren't the motherly kind... why, female champions use their babies as shields!

I'm posting this in all the relevant/active Modding threads.  There's a good chance that the next version's graphics system will allow you to use separate graphics for males and females, and any other creature castes:

Have caste selectors been added to the creature graphics system?

I thought they were, but maybe that was just raw positions.  I've made a note.
