Yeah, you'd have to research it more.  Basically, many Southern states were threatening to secede, or block up Congress, or otherwise screw the country over ever since the 1800s.  It was slavery, just in a roundabout way.  What the slave-holding states were afraid of was the admission of new non-slave-holding territories as states, which would upset the balance of power in Congress and threaten their little social order.  The North was afraid of admitting more slave-holding territories for the same reason.  So for seventy years, they kept kicking the can down the road by only ever allowing as many new states as would maintain the even split in the Senate between free and slave states.

The 1850s finally fucked things up, when the Missouri Line agreement meant that any new slave states would have to squeeze in between Colorado and Mexico, and a bunch of Texans didn't want to pay American taxes, and there was a big fight over some taxation issues following a military venture into Central America, and...  Well, what I'm trying to say is, the Southern states were willing to break the country if they couldn't have their way in Congress, especially in regards to maintaining slavery (which while never really on the table, no one ever accused Alabamans of rational strategy).  And then that's exactly what happened.  Does that condone, say, Grant burning the entire state of Georgia to the ground?  Not really, no, but we're splitting hairs here.

Hmmm that is somewhat a very boring and in a way it makes the war pointless. I can see why people like to spruce it up.

Though I still hate Altered history!

Well then the Civil war doesn't count either.

Since a Civil war cannot really be official
*shrugs* That is sort of different I suppose since we wern't fighting a foriegn nation, plus wasn't the civil war before we had an actual Congress?

The Confederacy was a different nation. The confederate states executed their legal right to cede, and for legitimate reasons. But they were stills still "America". The union did officially declare war.

The legal right thing is the problem, because as I remember there was no explicit allowance for secession in the Constitution.  Therefore they did not have a legal right to secede, they were still America, and since the Confederacy was the original aggressor, the South would be the villains.

That term is irrelevant though, because there's no good and bad, just us and them.
They were both us, Muffles.

Most Wars are pointless wastes of human life.

[snip]
It's true that there was no clause allowing for secession in the Constitution, or by the Air Bud rule, also no clause against it.
Oh man I just remembered Air Bud.

Grant burned more than just Georgia.  He burned South Carolina, too.  I live within 80 miles of the location of the first shot of the American Civil War.

How the Couch of Team Airbud could be considered the good guys is beyond me or heck Airbud himself.

Why isn't Airbud (everyone) listed under "Designated Hero" on TvTropes?

The US haven't won any wars as far as I can see, didn't join ww2 til the end, lost vietnam, lost afghanistan, lost iraq, and probably lost every other war they need to be in continuously. What does that leave, dropping a nuke on a city? Hoorah! If the US was well-trained or courageous it wouldn't need the threat of nuclear warfare. Who's afraid of a bunch of wacko scientists anyway?

Edit: fuck it, I shouldn't disregard the courage the US has shown in its conflicts, if the US can kick the shit out of the world, so be it.
Vietnam we pulled out after suffering heavy losses and making barley any progress, then the north rushes the south and takes over. FAIL

Korean War we push all the way up into deep North Korea which takes months, then the Chinese rush us back to where we started in a few weeks.. to which we decide to come to a truce. FAIL

War on terrorism which is getting no where quick, and has killed many American troops, taken a toll on the American economy, not to mention the war wearie Americans. FAIL

And my friend has the nerve to say America has yet to lose a war.. FAIL

We should be saluting like the rest of the world, we do it the way that a country that has never lost a war does it.

Perhaps you've heard of the Spanish-American War?  Where the United States (mostly the navy) roundly defeated the Spanish military in Cuba and the Philippines simultaneously?

At any rate, you're going about it all wrong.  American superpatriots invented the concept of the knockdown drag-out defeat of another nation, i.e. World War II.  (And I'll point out that the Pacific war was much more than one bombing run, which the U.S. military fought almost single handedly.)  You're just stooping to their level by insisting anything but sole actor, absolute total devastation is the only definition of "victory", and that anything else is a humiliating kick in the crotch.  Or for that matter that every other nation that ever left it's borders has a very similar history if taken in that light.

How many men would you say it would take to force the world under tyrant rule?
And what if they had advanced railgun technology?
