I would play as a merchant prince, make a bank-guild and then through guileful politics I would put the entire world in debt to me. I would see to it that the world is at constant war, while both sides are supplied with weapons from my forges.

No, but seriously, there is so much I would do. First thing would probably just be walking around and talking to people, being amazed over what they say. I'd really like to see fleshed out relations and politics. Like a nobleman giving you a quest to kill some Joe because he fondled his daughter and such.

But through gameplay rising from peasant to king has always been a wet dream of mine.

I would want to be a soapmaker..
No conquering the world or anything..
Just live in my soap-cabin, sitting in my soap-chair and enjoying my (virtual) life..

Oh my God.. I'm such a nerd..

Or you could be a dwarven noble, and demand every thing be made out of kitten.

2. Infiltrate a human city
3. Begin a cult that worships [Name of worlds evilest god]
4.Begin kidnapping peasants and sacrificing them to [Name of worlds evilest god].
5. Once the population has shrunk enough, take all remaining peasants and mass-sacrifice them all, asking [Name of worlds evilest god] to summon forth some demons to serve me.

Or you could be a dwarven kitten, and telepatically influence all moods to be fell and every thing be made out of nobles.
Fixed for you.

1. Find a town that's being terrified by a dragon, dress up as that dragon and enter the town roaring and stamping my feet and such, then when everyone's real scared I'll pop out of my costume laughing and say "thatsa spicy meatball!".
2. Die.

May my enemies drown in the blood of their countrymen.
I wonder what the legends will say?
Probably that you spent the whole time wandering the wilds.

One thing that I've always wanted to do is create a world full of hidden megaprojects, and then release a forum challenge to find them all. Sort of like National Treasure.

Hoo hoo hoo, one of the objectives is going to be to find an entrance to a fort that is hidden... beneath a frozen lake. You have to tunnel through the ice before it melts, and hopefully you will stumble across the entrance at the bottom of the lakebed.

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Make an elf archer with a TON of arrows, an archery target, and a script to fire them all at the target.
Then ELF GENOCIDE.

Ooh, a topic I have an interest in posting in.

Well, I'd probably attempt to found a town somewhere next to an ocean, become a pirate, Raid said town with ship, (Assuming that this could be done), bury all of my treasure on an island, and then die of starvation. Then start a new adventurer, find treasure, then go around with Pirates treasure...

Or... Something. I'd probably catch a bunch of wild animals in cage traps and release them in town. Good chaos.

Carefully deconstruct but not completely destroy a volcano.  Then, with perfectly agile skills, break open the last block and book it for my abandoned island fortress in the middle of a savage horrifying ocean while the entire world is flooded with magma, obliterating all life except for the fire imps and fire men.

Then reclaim the island.

Rob merchants passing through my secret forest hideaways.
With resulting loot, entice Peasants and such from the neighbouring towns to join my cause.
Expand and repeat.

Toady typically doesn't do things by half measures.  As evidenced by turning "make hauling work better" into "implement mine carts with physics".
There are many issues with this statement.
