[40d16] Corpse parts fall thru floors (Issue Resolved)
« on: November 28, 2009, 05:09:41 pm »

I threw a donkey down a 11 z-levels pit. Below the final z-level is my room complex. Donkey parts were scattered all over the pit floor, but somehow the left front leg, alng with a spattering of blood got thru the floor and landed on one of the rooms.

Insert witty remark made by a dwarf upon finding a bloody, severed donkey leg in their bed.

Are you absolutely sure that the final z-level had no openings in it, such as wells?  A body part could have arced high up and fallen down a faraway hole.  If you can't find any such holes, please upload a zip file of the region folder (in /data/save) to the DF File Depot so we can examine it.  You do have a save, right?  Also, if you're using any mods, include your /raw/objects folder in the zip file

What Footkerchief said.  Check for diagonals too, those are often overlooked.

As an added thing to check, flying animal fragments can pass through fortifications.

There is only one entrance to the z-level, a stairway about 20 tiles away from the pit floor and around a 90 degree bend. It is also 20 tiles away from the room the donkey head ended up in. I did not keep a save, sorry... Ill upload the map anyways, with a note where the donkey head ended up (its one of the offices in case you have trouble finding it).
I had dropped several goblins (about 10) down the same pit and this didn't happen.
I dropped the donkey down the southern pit tile.
No mods with this fort.

I tried to load your save in vanilla 40d16, got "Missing body def: CAT_MOUTH", fixed that, then got "Missing reaction definition."  Looks like you do have some mods.  I'll need your /raw/objects/reaction_standard.txt file too -- you can post it directly here in [code] tags, or you can upload it to Pastebin, or the DFFD if you want, though that's kind of overkill.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that he's using the Mayday pack. I really, really wish that that pack clearly stated up front that it is not "unmodded" Dwarf Fortress.

I found the notes saying "blood splatter" and "leg."  Directly above them was an up/down staircase, which essentially means there's a hole in the office ceiling, even though there's not an up staircase beneath it.  You can prevent this from happening by building a floor on those final staircases (if you don't want them to flash between a staircase and a floor, you can "channel" the staircase first to remove it, and then just construct an up stair).

The reactions mod in the Mayday patch are for the "economic stone mod", which marks every single type of stone as Economic so that you can selectively forbid them from being used by your masons or mechanics (usually intended for simplifying the process of making stuff out of bauxite).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

No one does.  Well, except those people who have been made aware of it by encountering a bug and then having the pack incompatibilities and such.
