What in the raws makes it special that it boils water? Could we make a custom creature that does the same and can be captured? Or change the fire imp to do the same? Cause that would be awesome.

Also, would nekid dorfs in the new version still be able to carry a super hot creature cage safely?

Oh, man. Steam traps. I can see the possibilities, starting with a flash-steam trap.

The best part is, since steam is a gas of sorts like miasma and mist, creatures will presumably continue to path through it, unlike magma!

a.) I think it's their [HOMEOTHERM: 25000] or some other obscene number.

b.) I hope so. Then again, it can't be worse than clothed dwarves doing it, can it?

At great cost I managed to catch a fire clown in a cage trap. I noticed that the tiles surrounding the cage showed as "warm rock" during dig designation, so to test a theory I constructed the cage (actually a green glass terrarium) in one of my underground river redirect areas, and opened the floodgates.

The fire clown boils any water within a tile of it to steam.

There's got to be a practical application for this. It kind of makes me wish there was some way to build a steam turbine to power pumps and things, because what could possibly be more badass than a steam engine that's powered by a malevolent entity of living flame?

Sadly my captured fire imps don't seem to have the same effect.

I can't think of use other than drainage and awesome.

Cross an ocean? Use dumping points to manage the hauling dwarf, and you could probably have a squad cross the ocean, albeit slowly and dangerously.

... That is an awesome idea. The only problem is what happens when the hauler gets hungry/thirsty/sleepy.

You could abandon, and lock the cage in a tall tower so it doesn't move. Have an adventurer take it and use it to travel under water.

Only tame ones die.

Named ones escape, as do wild ones like caged hydras or my caged giant cave swallow that was named from eating a weaver.

What would be awesome? If anything killed by steam was automatically butchered. Mmm... such tender goblin meat!

Why on earth would that happen?

What if you somehow used the SOF as a dwarven heat ray? Put in a few clear glass windows in a nice curved shape, a floodgate to control the heat, wait for the goblins elfen traders to stand in front and PEWWWW~
