Weapons suddenly Forbidden in my Warrior's Hands?
« on: November 27, 2009, 02:31:32 pm »

I took a look at my swordsdwarf army, and noticed that for some reason all their swords are forbidden.

I unforbade them, but a couple of seasons and sieges later I noticed that their weapons were forbidden again.

Will they still wield their weapons normally? And does anybody know what could be causing this?

Are you forbidding the metal they are made from?

Your swords are getting stuck in your enemies. I think changing the forbid options prevents this. I don't know which one, since I just turn all those off anyway.

They will still wield them perfectly fine, it's only a small annoyance if you're playing with OCD or want to switch what weapons they use.

As mentioned, this is because the weapons became stuck in the enemy, but it can just as well be that they wrestled a weapon from an invader, and were using it(This is rare, but happens occasionally, I've had a fisherdwarf wrestle a large dagger from a thief, and since then I imagined him using it to gut and clean the fish.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

Forbidding weapons is useful when you're trying to get your soldiers to use the right weapons.  Forbid the stuff they're using that they don't like, change them to unarmored or unarmed, give them a few seconds to drop their stuff, then change them back to the armor and weapon settings that you want.  They'll usually pick up the unforbidden stuff at their feet, and then go off to find new stuff to replace what you forbade.

Claim other dead items.

This is off by default, so if a weapon gets stuck in an enemy and the enemy dies, the weapon is now forbidden. However the dwarf will take back his weapon anyways.
