Wait what?

"SNATCHER! PROTECT THE CHILDREN!"

I look around and, um... there's a goblin thief in my cage trap. I thought that they were immune?

You're confusing them with kobolds/orcs.

Thieves do not get trap immunity - kobolds get trap immunity by virtue of them having [TRAPAVOID].

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Yeah, most of my sacrificial victims are goblin snatchers who were caught by cage traps. Definitely not supposed to be immune.

I believe trap_immune and trap_avoid are different.  Trap_immune means that no trap will go off at all when they step on them. While with trap_avoid the creature still has a chance to set off traps.

Well, my Legendary Record Keeper, Expert Appraiser, Competant Farmer just made an epic obsidian cabinet with aluminum studs and because a Legendary Mason.

Now he's going to go up against the thief in my dungeon.

There is no such thing as "trap_immune" versus "trap_avoid" - there is a single token, named [TRAPAVOID], which grants complete immunity to traps (unless knocked unconscious or webbed). When it comes to triggering traps, it's either "always" or "never", never "sometimes".

Hammergoblin and goblin thief vs legendary mason, legendary record keeper, part-time mayor and captain of the fortress guard, Olon Rungaxe.

Olon decided to disregard my orders and not bring a weapon to the fight, although he did pick out masterwork copper plate mail and a lovely steel shield.

He beat the thief to death with no problem, and then the first hit that hit the hammergoblin broke his spine. The spineless goblin died quickly. Olon then claimed the goblin's hammer for his own. Apparently, of all the hammers in the fort, he wanted THAT ONE.

That's pretty badass.
Urist McNorris: "That hammer is mine."
Goblin Fool: "No it i..."  *crkk* *snap* *squish*
Urist McNorris: "It's my hammer now."

To be fair, though, that goblin probably didn't take enough economics classes to realize when a hostile takeover should be embraced and when it should be resisted. ;)
