I'm going to try and continue, see if anyone survives, if not, well there's always reclaim mode.

You can stop dwarves usually stop dwarves from trying to do something by forbidding the target. If you forbid a trap they shouldn't try to reset it. It is probably best to just forbid all traps as soon as a siege starts, and they may still go after an unforbidden chunk that clogs up a forbidden trap.

*Sighs* I lasted so long, oh well, hopefully someone else will be able to carry on my work.

People say that dining rooms are good for making happy dwarves, if you install all the artefacts in the most expensive room and build a public room from a table? or was it chair? then it might be worth a bit of good thoughts...

Oh, and thanks for the efforts, chaos like this is what succession forts are all about!

Have recent events helped you FPS at all?

Yes it's moving much quicker now that I turned off Temp and weather, though with all the miasma and dead bodies and insane dwarves... Yeah..

Also, I put the gold chain in the dining room, but out of 9 artefacts, the chain is the only furniture type. The rest are crafts, weapons, and armors.

However, sleep calls. I shall compile some more in the morning.

We may survive this yet.

---
4th limestone

There isn't much left to write here anymore. I've given the general command that anyone still standing after the chaos ends to write a record of things here, so at least anyone finding the ruins will know what happened to the fort.

To do what I still can and stem the flow of tantrum, I've placed the new chain into the dining hall. It's pretty enough, maybe it can distract a dwarf or two.

20th limestone

The dwarven caravan arrived today. And luckily, all the goblin crap was still laying in the depot from the last time we tried to trade with someone, before the chaos that is this fortress began.

There is however, hope. I have talked with a couple dwarves who are quite and seem happy enough. They have no friends here yet, and while this may seem sad, it could be the only thing that saves this fort.

I've also shut down any industry that isn't needed, to try and streamline things like health care and damage recovery. Only the plump helmet field will be used at this point, as well as coffin and bucket production. Hopefully the merchants will finish unloading soon, and I can get some wood into the stockpiles.

1st sandstone

Managed to trade with the dwarves, got lots of wood, barrels, drink. Even some plump helmets, and steel bolts for relatively cheap.

Zas, the new trader, is another lucky soul with no friends, who has high moral. He has been appointed our new Broker. Speaking of administration positions, during all of this, our new mayor, Shem something... decided randomly to impost a ban on exporting bracelets. What in Logram beard does he think we are going to trade bracelets for?

Of course all of this is moot, when a tantruming dwarf decides to break the trade depot right after the trading is finished. I've set it to be rebuilt, using some horn silver blocks. Maybe the shine will impress some people.

19th sandstone

Apparently I've been given a title by those who know what I've done during my tantrum fits. I've killed six dwarves, and three animals. And have been entitled 'The Deity of Haunting'. A fitting title I think for the mess that has struck this fortress under my management... All I wanted was some strawberries.

21st sandstone

SALVATION! A band of migrants. Braving the terrifying state of this fortress, there is hope! With luck they can get things back under control. I don't know what god or goddess is looking after us, but if I survive this I may consider starting a priesthood.

Only 38 dwarves were still alive before the migrant wave, now 46, so eight more souls adding to try and save this place. Lets hope the goblins leave us alive long enough to save ourselves.

24th Timber

The mayor has gone berserk! Somehow I knew that dwarf wasn't right in the head... No idea how he got elected.

1st Moonstone

Winter is here. Things are looking more hopeful. I haven't felt the need to tantrum again recently, but it could come on at any time.

Yep, pretty screwed if we ever get a justice system going.

Any reason the coffins are RED?

Just the randomness of having alot of bauxite stone laying around.

Finished! And we survived. Uploading the save to the file depot now, hopefully without trouble, here's the final write up and screenshots:

-----
1st Opal, Mid Winter

A new mayor was elected. We are still trying to clean up, but he thinks its important to tell us all to not export any shields. I just don't understand what happens when these people get elected. We may never know...

I've given some orders to try and clear the traps out front, and finish building them. The goblins won't leave us alone forever, and those traps are our only hope at this point.

Along with the continued tomb project, I've given orders to slaughter most of the random animals running about. Leaving a couple set of camels, and a few of the caged animals from down below. There are also two caged goblins, but I have no plans whatsoever to do anything with them at this point.

7th opal

Noticed today that Kumil, one of our stonecrafters had blacked out while dragging a coffin. Upon asking I was assured he was fine. But after seeing him cough up blood before returning to work, I am worried. And having him black out constantly is going to be a pain. I've taken off his hauling work, and left him only to care for the wounded. Maybe he will take the hint.

14th Opal

A baby boy was born to one of the peasants. Let's hope this one has a better future than many of the others who have already died.

26th Opal

Today is a happy day! All the dwarves who have died over the past year, have been given a proper tomb. We even have some extras built, and I will let the masons create some extras in case more die. Now if we only had someplace to put all the assorted socks and gloves scattered in the hallways.

3rd Obsidian

Things have calmed down considerably, most of us are working on keeping the injured healed, and trying to get the trap defenses in working order. I worry about Mebzuth though, she's the only dwarf still tantruming, and I can't really blame her, she's been stuck in that bed for months now, and I don't really know how to help her other than hope she will cheer up when her wounds finally heal.

1st Granite

I didn't know if I would make it. But it seems we have survived until spring. The tombs are filled and the remains of our comrades have been laid to rest at least temporarily until a more impressive resting area can be built.

Our stockpiles are full of goblin junk, old clothing, too many furniture and other assorted junk, but with priorities as they are, I would warn my successor against making more bins or sorting the junk just yet. The goblins will return, I have no doubt of that, let us hope that the traps are finished by then, and we can hide inside.

My only other concern is the justice system for the fort. While we have survived, the law states that all of us who tantrumed need be punished for it. There is no way to get around this, eventually it will have to be done. I just hope whomever does it, realizes that almost every dwarf who survived this year, managed to gain nearly lethal punishments just trying to stay sane. Perhaps if we manage to survive and a hammerer journeys to our fortress, perhaps then it will be time to accept what has happened, and give over to the next generations.

For now, I step down from town manager, hopefully I can stick to farming and cooking and brewing. And no longer have to worry about death, miasma or goblins...

----
Visual extras:

Haika's suite, The only thing that kept him alive I think.

The farm area:

The noble quarters, at least the first couple, the other two are similar across the hallway to the north. They were started right as the chaos happened, and got totally ignored after they were dug out. People after me could use them for a sorted stockpile or just clear out the stone and continue on as extreme suites. The smallest rooms were to be the tombs, with the largest as throne rooms for greeting just inside the door. Then the other two as bedrooms and dining rooms.

And the final status:

32 dwarfs, probably at least 15 are on rest status in beds. Be very careful about overworking your dwarfs, right now Kumil the lung patient is the only dedicated healer(bring water, bring food) and more could die. There are also still some unhappy dwarves around. Whatever stabilibily I've managed to latch onto is very fragile.

Ok, can't seem to figure out how to put a map up, so if whomever takes over wants to complie a map first, it would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I downloaded it a few hours ago, I will probably take a shot at it tomorrow.

I have started, I don't have the pictures up yet but I will post the text I have so far, I will also try to load the year's map.

Everyone seems to be avoiding responsibility, but we will need some order if we are going to get through this, I have started giving commands and people seem to be listening, but who knows how long it will last with everything that has been happening.

I have told Haika to concentrate on processing food and the other planter to concentrate on growing it. Hopefully some high-quality meals will cheer people up.

A baby has fallen into the chasm, I never should have allowed them to walk through the water, but how else can I fix our water supply?

Elves have arrived to trade, Perhaps we can find something to cheer us up amongst their supplies, at least I can clear out some of the goblin's refuse. But we will need the guards to be alert, in case the merchants were followed...

15th Granite, Early Spring.
A vile force of darkness has arrived, the Walls have not bee repaired, I will try to arrange some emergency construction, but I fear there is nothing to stop them. Our soldiers are massively outnumbered, our only hope is that we might be able to break their morale, I will set an ambush...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Traps drove them off, but I will need something more elegant next time, we lost a brave stonecrafter who sealed the fortress at the last moment, their sacrifice will be remembered.

We bought a grizzly bear and a couple of training weapons, but little of value.

I am giving the whole military training with crossbows, And forbidding use of our more valuable bolts. I hope this will keep our soldiers from harm.

The extension to the river is finally complete, lets hope that this will mark an end to the deaths from that accursed chasm.

27th Slate, 17, mid-spring.
I found a pet cat today

12 Hematite, 17, Early Summer
Human traders arrived today, unfortunately there was a miscommunication and their wagons were left behind...

19th Hematite.
We traded some Clothing for some wood and barrels, they seemed happy enough.

22nd
The new mayor has mandated 3 Rose gold items, with luck we might meet their demands.

17th Malachite Mid-Summer
Meng Sterusmörul, one of the peasants, has been taken by the madness, we suspect unnatural forces to be at work.

1st Galena, 17 Late Summer

27th Galena, 17, Late Summer
The human envoy is leaving.

14th Limestone, 17, Early Autumn.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A caravan has arrived From the Mountainhome, it won't give us the holiday we need, but at least there will be some new faces. I am ordering our soldiers to the battlements.
One of our soldiers seems to have suffered a crossbow bolt through both of their eyes. I can only assume that it was a training accident, I will have to revise the archery ranges.
