Appropriately random names
« on: November 26, 2009, 03:49:59 am »

It didn't really occur to me until I just noticed an engraving of it, but one of my forts had a steel artifact bed known as "The Tenacious Ache".  I don't remember the details of it anymore, but the name alone is good.

There's a basalt crown named "Failedrulers".  The creator must not have been fond of the mayor at the time.

There's a dwarf named Kogan Paddlebasements (?) the Naughty Word.  Don't think about that too much.

How about your names?

I had an engraving titled 'The Unspeakable Tactic'. It was my Sheriff striking down a named Troglodyte. I'm not sure I want to know HOW he did it, though...

I once had a squad named "The strange strategy"...not only completely unpronouncable but also strangely fitting for the dorfs who prefer following their leader to heroic... (ta-daa!) drinking instead of fighting.

One of my founders has a squad called The Rough Neutralization. She's currently a squad of one, and her neutralization plans involve lodging a pickaxe in someone's brain with her +5 Legendary miner and Accomplished Wrestler skills.

My engravings are beautiful, too. The best would have to be The Delightful Grave of Spikes (image of a ballista arrow) and The Bearded Creep (image of the expedition leader -- there are many images about him founding the place, some with not-so-nice titles).

Another of my founders started out as the guy who gathered plants, and his last name turned out to be Grovepick.

An engraving underneath one of my coffins is titled Tesum Genlath, The Controllers Of Seducing. It relates to the creation of a masterful goblin skull totem by one Imush Urgeclasped.

I'm not altogether sure how Imush and his totem are controllers of seducing, and I certainly don't want to hear about him "urgeclasping".

I had an expedition leader named Mosus. We should have embarked near a river and pumped it out.

Aye, we are Armok, god of blood, evil, villager gutting, fortress building, legend making and elf thongs.

"... a rendition of an exceptionally designed image of a dwarf. The image is the symbol of The Lustrous Bodices, a local dwarven government." All. Over. My. Fortress.

An univited guest: Lum Oracleage the Poetic Lesson the titan

My champion is named "Solon Murdercrystal, the Frigid Bog of Strangers", but my favorite title was given to the Hammer Lord "Logem Plankspeech the Celebrated Quiescence of Lock". According to the raws, "Lock" in this case means "lock of hair", so I imagine Logem being famous for using a lot of hair products to keep his hairdo from moving. I also have an elite marksdwarf with the title "the Purple Swords". I haven't quite figured out whether it's possible to make shortswords out of a purple metal or somehow decorate steel shortswords with something purple, but I'm intending to give him two masterwork swords after I finish training him with a no-quality silver sword.

I had a very odd coincidence with my current fort.  I picked the name of the government for what I intended to do (kill nobles) and chose "The Crypt of Castles."

Wouldn't you know it, my two most important starting dwarves are named Zon Castleweakened and Asob Cryptsieges," and both of their names fit exactly what I intend to do with this fortress.

I also have a squad named "The Fellowships of Ringing," an engraving named "The Passionate Girder, and a garnierite bed named "Somberswallows the Odorous Typhoon."  It's best to avoid mental images of what goes on in that bed.

This one is pretty meaningful:
Lesno Drivenstraps the Road of Meditation.

Also, these speak for themselves:
Histek Weatherpassions the Relieved Length
Puja Twistedrouted the Fleshy Veneration

And the best:
Noloc Chantedzeniths the Warm Length of Men
(the best part is that she's female)

Short of modding one in or strange moods, not really, no. The only two purplish metals are rose gold and bismuth, neither of which are weapons-grade materials. You can, though, stud the swords with rose gold and make them vaguely purple.

Two of my military squads are named "The Scenarios of Iron" and "The Matching Tombs". Significantly more badass than "The Autonomy of Syrups", I feel.

On the artifact side, there's "Renownedspurn the Acrid Violator", a cinnamon grossular idol (I'd rather not ask what it's an idol of) and "Pointycrests the Stoker of Swords", a crown that menaces with spikes of magnetite.

Let's see....I have a turtle shell helm by the name of Cutpeaces the Wet Baldness. A native platinum bed called The Elevated Moistness. Oh, and the legendary Quicknessbasis the Truthful Spasm-Cyclone.

I have a giant elf bone axe blade artifact called The Tunnel of Competition.

You can see where this is going.
