Strange Creature I found

So I was walking down at out local (saltwater) lake today, and came across these strange... Marine creatures. I was able to capture them and well, they look nothing like I've ever seen before.




Sorry for the crappy picture.

It's difficult to tell but they're blue, but at night they look kinda green, and about 3-5cm long. When you poke them they curl up into a ball and back, their undersides are white. On each of their right sides they have this clear curly appendage of some sort, sticking out of them.

Does anybody have a clue what they are? I'd like to know for curiosities case, I'm contemplating emailing pictures of them to the head of Biological Sciences at the local uni, just so I know what they are.

Looks like a horrific crossbreed of an anenome and a fish.

Yeah, that picture is really really bad.  Can you tell if they're insects or fish or what?

Also maybe take another picture without holding the camera too close for the autofocus.

I think they're amphibious, definitely not insect probably not fish. Since they're floating on the water, not in it.

No, and I don't think they can. They certainly haven't tried.

All I can think is it is some kind of Mutated Newt. Were there any serious Nuclear Reactor melt downs?

Nope, we have 1 Nuclear Reactor in Australia, I think, but that's about 3-4 hours drive north.
