This is taken even further then when he states that it isn't even for himself but for the "good of the community", when in fact it would make installing mods slightly more difficult.

Please, Sethner Von Hertts, kindly fuck off and come back when you've gained some manners.
Please, do read the whole thread.  It really helps prevent embarrassing repeats of previous misunderstandings.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

The funny thing is that total conversions ARE in a self contained form.

DF doesn't really lend itself to total conversions yet, anyway.  Even the most creative mods are little more than skin changes and clever bug exploits.  (Not to minimize the effort on part of the modders - there are some really great mods that obviously took a lot of planning and balance.)  To add to the unnecessary hubbub:  Copying a directory is generally much easier than going through an install procedure or fiddling with compression software, especially when you start considering packages for non-Windows systems.  Mayday's package is a little special, since it's trying to get around the complications of installing graphics and make the game more accessible.  It's hardly the standard for implementing mods, especially in a game that is still in the early ALPHA stages.

Anyway, stop jumping on the guy.  It's not like "winning" this argument is going to prove anything.
