Enemy Pathfinding, Marksdwarves, Traps, and Me

Say I have a staggered trap formation all around my perimeter, where o is open and X is a trapzone

The setup allows passage between the diagonals connecting the o's.  Will enemies (save thieves who most (if not all) of the time ignore traps anyway) always avoid the traps or stumble through them and sometimes trip them?

My marksdwarves (along with one caught outside and hastily conscripted wrestler and one particularly eager sworddwarf) kept the first ambush from getting that close (the traps are less than ten squares away from the guardtowers), so I have not had opportunity to test this.

In my experience, enemies always avoid stepping on the traps if they can.

I have never seen invaders take traps into account when pathfinding.  They don't seem to avoid stepping on traps at all, even when their buddies were just shredded in front of them.
