A carpet fit for a King
« on: November 24, 2009, 09:59:17 am »

Finally. After 18 years (at 20-ish FPS) of work, the carpet for my throne room is complete.

It is a combination of my civilisation's symbol, two tower caps, and my fortress' symbol, a thin cross.
It also symbolizes our relationship with trees and their pets, the elves. We target them.

The carpet is the craftswork of only 3 dwarves: a dyer, a weaver/dyer and a clothier.
It is made up entirely from GCS silk rope, each rope decorated with a plant fiber image.
All craftswork, including the dyeing, is of at least exceptional quality.

The cheapest pieces are worth 2360 dwarbucks, the most expensive value at 5440 dwarfbucks.

Special thanks go to Olosuspen and Thranburde, for providing their silk.

AWESOME. Surely the workers responsible should be given honorary statutes in a prominent location. That carpet wasn't even made by child slaves in a sweatshop, so you know it must be seriously valuable.

Why each time I come on Bay 12, my fortresses seems smaller and smaller to me?

BTW, I love the gobbos stacked between the archery target. ^^

Hehe. That's one of those things I do in every fort. Caged gobbos between the archery targets.

This thread has some nice circle templates: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=30589.0 A larger version is on the second page. You can set your init file to have DF use square tiles instead of rectangular.

I spent well over a month on the carpet. The fort itself is 3 months old now I think.
As for the round rooms, I just designate a square for digging and chip away (undesignate) at the corners until it looks round enough for my taste.

What? This is not for us! This is for the big man in the sky to alleviate his boredom! But we are underground, how can he see it? Silence! Do not question the natural order of things!

Revelation: Dwarf Fortress is about building an asylum.

That's what carpets are.

The dwarfs simply made it dwarfier, in this case by seriously oversizing it.
