created new race but all fall down on embark

Hi all.  I'll make this short as it's 2:30 in the morning.   I've finally been able to create a new human type race to play with and it shows up fine in history etc.  But, the problem is when I use it in fortress mode, immediately after embark, everyone sustains major damage and won't move.  In adventure mode, not only does my little fellow fall down and drop all of his stuff he was holding, but so does the entire town...world?.  Any ideas as to what's happening?  Thanks in advance for any who take the time read this.

Have you made any changes to the BODY raw?

Problems with the creature's body are generally what cause the problem you're describing. Check your errorlog as well.

EDIT: I see your problem. You have a simple "Humanoid" tag for body, which does not have basic body parts needed to function unless it has a nonstandard body. You have [STANDARD_FLESH]

You'll need heart, lungs, organs, eyes, mouth tags. Also, all of those knee/elbow attacks don't work with a simple humanoid body.

Look at the basic dwarf/human creature_standard.txt entry on [BODY:] it'll give you an idea of what you need.

Another possible fix is to add [NOTHOUGHT].  If they don't have to think they don't need a nervous system.

I am not familiar with substituting the fortress-playable race but I did finally get it to generate a playable world by making Dwarves individually playable instead of playable as a civilization.

DF Companion doesn't think the Dwarves are injured, but they do.  If you look at their thoughts, they have all been injured recently.  DF Companion says that their nervous systems have been calculated.

I added [NOTHOUGHT] as suggested above, and then loaded from my save.  They are moving now, and no longer flashing as injured.

  Hrmmm, to think my little guys actually need those things to live...oops   lol.  That's what I get for doing these things in the middle of the night.  I just discovered this game a week ago and I can't stop fiddling with it  It's absolutely incredible!  I have been looking for something like this for a long time.  I'll have to send the two guys a big thanks.

Alright, that fixed it.  I overlooked the very detailed body that anyarmod created for those moves etc.  I just added that and it all works fine.

Hm. If you just go with a humanoid body, the entries for attacks with 'front legs' and 'rear legs' don't make a lot of sense. They're tied to STANCE, so the attacks will work, but it'll be weird to get kicked by something with the rear leg when IT DOESN'T HAVE ONE.

If you intend for your race to have four legs, you'll have to work with some BODY definitions of your own. If you don't, it'd kinda make sense to modify the attack entries some.

Hmm, the attack coding isn't mine but I imagine the idea behind that was to describe a kick using your rear leg or front leg (as in relation to your martial arts stance).  In martial arts, or any fighting for that matter, you usually don't stand facing your opponent with feet parallel.  Your legs are usually staggard and kicks are described from comming from front or rear leg.  When testing this out in Adventure mode, it seemed to work very well, except my opponents all knew the moves too and beat the snot out of me!!  It's particularly fun to have them grab some part of you, kick you a few times then let go of the grasp.  heh.

I know the front-leg/rear-leg concept. (Karate-ka here.)

Thing is that it in my opinion gets a bit ambiguous/confusing when meshed with the left-leg/right-leg separation.

Suddenly you have left front leg, right front leg, left rear leg and right rear leg attacks. Even if they -mean- attacks with two legs while shifting stances, and I can see that, it still seems weird to me. D:

True.  I know what you mean and noticed this as well.  But I allowed for a bit of "unpolished wiggle room".  Kind of similar to when I come across a typo,   I just ignore it and replace the mis steak with the correct word in my mind. ;) Lately, I've been going through the dev notes and catching up on what's going into the new release.  Looks like there is some talk about martial arts, so this type of "4 leggedness" may be dealt with.  Dunno for sure, I have a lot of catching up to do.  Reading about the new stuff is almost as fun as playing... which is a LOT of fun!
