I once ate cake with weird tasting blue icing. When I asked what the blue icing was I got a blank stare. It wasn't supposed to be blue.

I remember once I had this slice of watermelon. A couple bites in, I realized it tasted strongly of Alcohol. The watermelon had begun to ferment. Since most of the content of a watermelon is, well, water, with a bit o sugar, the result was kind of like a whiskey shot in solid form. Not very pleasant. Not the worst thing I've ever tasted, but definitely more interesting than having someone's dungy fingers in my mouth

Once in Japan our group was getting sushi.  now, I'm not big on sea food, so when I see a beef item, I jump on it...

Turns out it was Gristle Sushi.

Another time, at a bakery, I get what looks to be a bread with cream cheese... no, that's just warm mayo.

They like warm mayo in Japan... and it looks like cheese when it's all... dried... and crusted on top...

Aside from that, I don't try eating anything foul smelling; there isn't anything nasty that you can't pick up in the scent.

You can't always go by scent. This horrible Korean drink just smelt like slightly scented hot water; nothing to give away the fact that it was really quite nasty.

In fact I've had things which smelt quite nasty, but tasted pretty good.

 I'll take that as a warning then. I've never encountered anything that didn't taste like it smelled, or smell like it tastes. Nor anything that couldn't be identified and located by scent.

Here's something to try: Hold your nose and put a mint in your mouth. You won't taste it.

I know what thats like
I remember that once I ate a old watermelon. By the time I figured out what that odd taste was from I was already crippled by a horrible migrane for the rest of the day.

 I just tried it with what I had available; normal bubble gum, peanut butter, egg nog, grape fruit, "fruity" hard candy, and chocolate do not lose their taste when nose held. So it's only mint?

I tried 13-year-old gum once.  I was in seventh grade and a kid brought some baseball cards from 1990.  It was like trying to eat a pink rock.  I had to spit it out, I couldn't chew it.

I actually thought, because the picture of the gum had pirates on it, that the gum was skin flavored.

So I guess my real answer is this

OH DAMN I JUST REMEMBERED.

Orville Redenbacher's Honey flavored popcorn... I seriously have no idea how anyone can stand that stuff.
 Worst thing about it is after you microwave it the entire kitchen and possibly neighboring rooms get contaminated with a horrific stench the likes you've never inhaled, and like the beef & beans aftertaste, the smell doesn't go away until morning.

I know a group that goes to sell kettle corn at the local annual fair, it's just a matter of finding people who can do it right.
