40d16 Marksdwarves freezing on bridge
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:55:37 pm »

In defending a fortress against a siege (Dig Deeper mod with marble deleted), my marksdwarves stopped patrolling across the drawbridges over the entrance when enemies were under it. I suspect that there's a bug in the line of sight and firing code where they're freezing because they can see an enemy (and thus think they can attack), but when they do an attack command they're told "oh hey, there's a drawbridge between you and your target".

Are they set to "chase opponents"?

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Something similar's happening with my marksdwarves. I station them outside during a siege, and they stay there- even if I take them off duty, even if they're out of ammo, even if they're hungry and drowsy and sleepy. The only way to get them to move seems to be undrafting them, or waiting for the end of the siege.

Grendus: perhaps the freeze is related to bug #32?  Could they have seen the target just before it went under the bridge, but not gotten a shot off until after the target went under the bridge?

InsanityPrelude: usually their brain turns back on after the intended target is gone (dead or run away); is that what you see?

Yeah. Problem is when they run out of ammo before they run out of targets.
