Dwarf Fortress on the internet
« on: November 23, 2009, 08:55:08 pm »

OK well I noticed dwarf fortress is VERY popular al around the internet, so I thought I would start a thread about other places where dwarf fortress is played and such and to see how well known it is.
First of all the first one I see by using Google and going to a random page:
http://forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?t=468877&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

So any others?

There's been a DF thread on /v/ at least once a day for the past week that has reached the image limit each time, and even before that it's been fairly popular. Seems the isometric visualiser has really grabbed people.

That CEF game kinda died before it even began.

A lot of members of Bay12 are also members of Wurm Online.

One of the forum areas on 4chan.  Also pretty popular on /tg/ (traditional games) on the same site, but there is a quite a bit of cross-pollination.

It's not all of 4chan that does that, just /b/.

A popular Eve-Online forum called Scrapheap Challenge has quite a few dwarf fortress players and even a Succession game going...

Let's see...

There's 4chan's boards that haven't been screwed up, namely /tg/(I've actually got a tab open with a dwarf fort thread in /tg/ right now)
I've seen a dwarven fighter(Named Urist mcminer, or some variation thereof) wielding a pick in DDO(Dungeons and dragons online, and there have been several DF references in the general chat when I played)
The famous boatmurdered was done by somethingawfull(Home to the goons, or whatever they go by)
There are several videos about DF on youtube, though this might not count because there's videos of everything on youtube.
And on forums everywhere you may find a dwarf fortress thread, but this really depends on the forum.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the Penny Arcade forums.  They have a huge archive of all the 100-page threads they've burned through, with a lot of funny people who actually know how to play the game.

Seems the Minecrafters all know of this game and have 'played it, but it was too complex. I really want to get back into it someday and understand it.' They know us well enough, and a few B12'ers are relatively active there.
