Dwarven Training Classes
« on: November 23, 2009, 11:38:08 am »

It's been interesting reading about the new classes that are happening from the dev log, like for crossbows.  I wonder if comedy classes would ever break out...  It would make Dorf Shorts easier, I think!  ;)

Fishing practice everybody!

Now this is how you properly fish. Stick your beard in the water like so, then you wait for a fish to bite and pull it out, simple right?  Good, now in the case of the larger fish it is your holy duty to jump in to the river and try to wrestle it to death on sight.

Don't worry, if the miner isn't on break, or eating, or drinking, or working on the hollow the world project, he has a 35% chance of getting to the river and digging a ramp to let you out before you drown, so it's perfectly safe.

Dorfs keep getting wounded while training with real cheese. We need wooden training cheeses!

Why wouldn't dwarves want to train to make cheese?  ...unless it's some kind of natural talent.  Do we know what Dwarven Cheese is made of yet?

I wouldn't mind opening up a school in my own fortress for one area of study.

The issue I see is mostly that people often have the urge to have everything... but a fortress shouldn't have more then a few royal schools at most... but the game will seem worse off because you don't have all of them.

This is of course excluding off site schools/Academy/College and stuff

I think a do-everything fortress is a mental goal that people set for themselves because the individual professions/trades and the economic aspects aren't very interesting yet.  A specialized fortress holds little appeal because specialization is boring -- it's too easy, and it just makes the numbers go up, with no qualitative improvement.  The new military training is a step in the right direction, but we'll really start seeing this kind of qualitative progress when we have combat styles, recipes, unique items of clothing, customized weapons and so on -- opportunities for dwarves to add a creative element to their work.

I really find specialization and customization of items exciting.  I hope we can have those custom workshops up soon.

This is why dwarves need to carry hatchets. You can mince anything with a hatchet and obstinacy.

Considering that no water is added during the making of Dwarven booze, it's likely to be a bit on the thick side, isn't it?   :D
