I just realized the elves might be happy that I "attempted to save" the small patch of land that I did with my wall. Well, we can't have that! Burn it to the ground after clearing out the trees!  :)

A dwarves favorite color is actually indeed red, but not for magma, but for the blood of the thousands of invaders that run into pools and rivers, daring for that next person to come...

You do not understand the ways of Toady One. He is not a business, he's just a guy trying to make a fun game. He's invited people to come along and experience the journey with him (and help him test it out as he goes along). At the end of the day, I don't think his main goal is to sell Dwarf Fortress, its just to create the best game possible.

Let's face it, they're agents of Armok, God of Blood. And they regularly go kill-crazy. A fondness for red is only to be expected.

...Is that a road of vomit?

Either that, or a rough road made of olivine.
Given the occasional gaps, though, I'm guessing it's vomit.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I'm planning a setup similar to this.

Except it's permanent.

And my fort will be an island in a sea of lava, with a road of obsidian lined with garnierite walls leading to what's left of the mainland.

Hot damn I love this game.

I'm reminded of The Lord of the Rings. The hot lava place at the end. Morder? Murder? Murdered Boat? Morbid? Can't remember.

You'd be thinking of Mordor.

Doorku, I think you missed something.  You've read Boatmurdered, right?

If not, get on that.  It's probably what got me to play in the first place.

What would you do if seven small, beared men marched into your home and started to dig out a city in your basement?

I've read part of it, but I've never really had the chance to go all-out. I'll probably do that sometime over the next few weeks.

(I noticed the joke - I've named three forts variations on "The Murder of Boats" - but decided to go with pedantic accuracy for a change of pace)

Ah, yes, Mordor. Where murdered boats sail the oceans of magma, carrying crews of berzerk flaming dwarves that have died in every tantrum spiral to ever exist...

It is a place of horror, but also of amazement and beauty that only a true warrior could appreciate.

...I just went poetic for no reason. Something must be wrong with me...

I think you've just figured out the dwarven equivalent of Valhalla.

Boatmordored, the Hall of Armok!

You're given a better bedroom for bringing in elf heads, body not required; your equipment is masterwork
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
and the dwarven ale stockpile alone would require a 1000x1000 embark to replicate in-game.

Oh, and there's a trillion special rooms, each containing two cages of a specific animal. It's specially set up so you can throw goblins in and pull the lever to let out the really dangerous ones.

[Oh, and thanks for sigging me.]
