I modded the game to play as humans who come during the spring. So in the spring, my first caravan from the home civ arrives, and with it are both a Guild Representative and a Hamlet Liaison. They speak to my broker and my leader, respectively, and they both allow me to request items.

Does anyone know what effect this has on what the merchants bring? I just requested the same thing for both of them, and that gets me what I want, but what would happen if I requested radically different things from either of them?

Apparently modding out merchant nobility seems to fix the issue and gives you only the liaison. As for requesting different things, try it out and you tell us. Be aware that it might just screw your game.

If I have to guess, I'm guessing that the second one you talk to just overrides the first one.

I haven't tried to play with MERCHANT_NOBILITY on my main civ, I think Gilberreke is right and the last one overrides the first one, however if you could test you would contribute to community knowledge .
