Then create a large obsidian chunk, and prop it up with supports. Dig your fortress up into the chunk, never coming down. Use magma to create obsidian from the tower, and you can farm on muddied obsidian. Basically, build an above-ground fortress entirely out of cast obsidian without being on the ground.

How about this idea? Around your microcline bridge, build massive towers, with bridges leading between towers at varying heights. At the bottom is a really slummy run down area for your migrants and peasants, around the middle is where all your marketplaces and crafts go on, and at the top would be the shining noble quarters, complete with clear/crystal glass windows for them to stare down on everything.

Bonus points if all the levels can be locked down separately by levers in the noble quarters. Even more bonus if there are 'purge' levers that spike everyone, everywhere. SPIKE TRAP EVERYWHERE!

I have two ideas. First, I'm going to make a gigantic replica of a 15/16th century ship, specifically a carrack. Masts, maybe portholes, and maybe even some ballista. Anyways, one of the levels will be a pub, with a bar, wooden bar stools, private booths, and LOTS of booze. Another level will be like a hotel, the cabins converted into suite-style bedrooms, with high-quality glass and wooden furniture.

The next megaproject is going to be a gigantic bottle made out of green glass. I will pump a large amount of magma in through the neck of the bottle. It will look like Armok dropped a bottle of booze from the sky.
