Your fortress has transcended mere "dwarfy" into a kind of indescribable awesomeness. Or maybe I've never seen a really bad tantrum spiral before... Meh

You would have fared better to draft all the peasants and recent arrivals without many friends and simply moved them someplace safe until the spiral burned out.  The logistics of that would have been a nightmare, though.  Lots of micro-management.

Manifold: Maybe someone should link to this thread in the "How do end a fort"[sic] thread.

What would you do if seven small, beared men marched into your home and started to dig out a city in your basement?

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me. Minus the explosions. So it took forever.

But at the end, I had five usable work dwarves and four REALLY good warriors to defend against the hordes of goblin invaders.

Dwarf creature's file includes:

[ITEMCORPSE:STATUE:NO_SUBTYPE:STONE:DWARF_STONE]

Matgloss_stone_mineral file includes:

[MATGLOSS_STONE:DWARF_STONE]
[NAME:earthen dwarf][COLOR:7:7:1][TILE:220]
[SOLID_DENSITY:30000]
[MELTING_POINT:100]
[BOILING_POINT:150]
[VALUE:1]

And that's how you make dwarf suicide bomber military squads for the gobbos and orcs.
With the unfortunate side effect of being able to cause chain deaths of your own dwarves as each explosion sets off the nearby dwarves. I have considered COLDDAM_POINT tags but I'm not sure I want to.

Update November 23, 2009:

7 dwarves left. 4 nobles, a child, and two normal dwarves, one of which is bedridden. The orcs and goblins are not sympathetic to my rebuilding efforts. But still I try.

The thing that confuses me about dorfs is this. Dorf 1 dies in an avalance or somesuch. Dorf 2 is friends with dorf 3 and dorf 1. Dorf 2 berserks because of his friends death and kills dorf 3. also a friend. W. T. F.
Clearly you've never been drunk.

That was amazing to read.

The thought of a dwarf falling off a tower and exploding at the bottom...

If you can invent a flying machine, dwarves can do bombing raids! AND THEY'RE THE BOMBS!

For better effect with bombing runs...
Explosive cats. Cluster-grenades of kittens.

I'm gonna mod my dwarves to explode on death now.

It was deep winter... and all water sources had frozen... we were on the brink of a unhappiness spiral... no water, no brew, NOTHING O_O and 5/30 dwarves already dead and unburied.

Then, in a blaze of brilliance, we tapped the magma and drove it under the brook, Water began flowing once again and all was well.

The end :3
